McLaren new Super Series testing vid

The 'build your own McLaren' drip feed adds wheels and goes for a drive

Can there really be anything left to say about the new McLaren Super Series after these piecemeal press releases? There is actually, even if by the time the covers come off on the March 7 press day you'll be forgiven for feeling a sense of Super Series fatigue.

Thus far we've had details of the structure, aero, suspension, engine and now we've got wheels, tyres and brakes. And news that if you've scared yourself hitting 125mph from rest in the published 7.8 seconds you can hit the brake pedal and be stationary again in just 4.6 seconds and 117 metres. Once your eyeballs have returned to their sockets you can perhaps take in the fact this is six metres shorter than a 650S and "almost on a par with the legendary McLaren P1" in the words of this latest release.

Further details include news of standard carbon ceramic brakes, lighter and stiffer calipers and improved pedal feel and modulation. Impressive, given McLarens were already among the best in the business for the latter. There's also a new Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyre to which McLaren is attributing a 6 per cent increase in mechanical grip over the 650S.

And if you're STILL not satisfied there's a little testing vid with McLaren's chief test driver Chris Goodwin below.

Watch the video here.

Anyone know where that track is? Looks like something out of a video game with that bridge.

I've read numerous times about the electronic diff in the P1, 675LT etc not hindering the driving enjoyment, so to rule a car out based on that seems daft (if you were in the position to have one). I'd like to actually drive it and see how it drives, rather than immediately assume it's no good purely because they've come up with another method.

Your average buyer won't get anywhere near the performance required to tell the difference.

Too fast for the road, and based on track days I have done too fast for track days, given traffic and overtaking rules.

Do the wealthy folk that buy these, privately hire racetracks or are there exclusive track days where only supercars over 600hp with "average" drivers are allowed on?

Just curious!

I appreciate many will never see a racetrack and are purchased just because.....

Wow - class war!
All rich people with nice cars are status obsessed morons with no idea how to drive and all folks in modest hot hatches are salt of the earth driving gods - if only they'd had a rich daddy they'd be on the F1 grid....etc.

Yes, of course there are plenty of exclusive trackdays where wealthy people can stretch their cars without tripping over MX5's, Impreza and Clios. Some owners on these days are beginners, some are average and some are very good drivers.

Please don't peddle the stereotype that all super car drivers are "average" . I know one who finished 3rd at Daytona and another who is racing at Le Mans this year. Nothing "average" about them. They might even be better drivers than you.

hehe

and also....so what if they're purchased "just because"? We all buy some stuff we don't need, but just WANT. The world would be very dull otherwise.

Yeah true but I don't think that's where BB was heading there, if I'm wrong I'll hold my hand up.

I shouldn't bite anyway but there is so much petty sniping on PH lately it just becomes tiresome.
