I appreciate many will never see a racetrack and are purchased just because.....
Because what? What pearl of prejudice lies the other side of those little dots BB?
hehe

and also....so what if they're purchased "just because"? We all buy some stuff we don't need, but just WANT. The world would be very dull otherwise.
Yeah true but I don't think that's where BB was heading there, if I'm wrong I'll hold my hand up.

I shouldn't bite anyway but there is so much petty sniping on PH lately it just becomes tiresome.
I agree, I think his point was they buy them just to show off etc, rather than what I was getting at, which is more people buy them because they just want one (be it for fun, thrills, they look the looks of it or whatever...it doesn't really matter why....they want one, and if they're able to get one then fair play) thumbup

Will they FINALLY fit a proper LSD like Ferrari and Porsche do?

Otherwise

I'm OOT!

(I was never in tbf)
I've read numerous times about the electronic diff in the P1, 675LT etc not hindering the driving enjoyment, so to rule a car out based on that seems daft (if you were in the position to have one). I'd like to actually drive it and see how it drives, rather than immediately assume it's no good purely because they've come up with another method.
It works by grabbing brakes doesn't it?

That is a bad solution technically. It's the same thing that Mercedes used to do on the old SL's
https://youtu.be/_dfff-s2OMc?t=7m8s

And that tended to overwork the rear brakes as a result iirc.

If it was such a great idea. I'm amazed Stuggart and Maranello haven't stolen it for their cars. hehe

Saying that, the hydraulic "no roll bar" thing is sensible

I think it's a bit different to the Merc system. If it was a bad solution, they wouldn't have used it, they'd have used a mechanical diff instead. It's not as if these McLaren cars are known to be poor in the cornering department, is it!

Mclaren seem to get a lot of grief about the rear braking but pretty much everyone whether Porsche or Ferrari do use that system of rear braking and have done so for a long time. It's just called something else rather than 'brake steer' and is used in conjunction with some kind of limited slip diff most of the time and not just on it's own.

Do you really think you can tell any real dynamic difference between a car with a lsd and one using brakes to mimic it?

Isn't it basically the same technology McLaren used in F1 for a season before the FIA banned it? As a general rule if it's banned from F1 it makes cars faster. I'm sure a modern carbon ceramic brake sized properly for the duty can deal with the temps unlike the steel/iron rotors that would have been in a poser-mobile like an SL.
