I reckon there are a few on here as anal as me who like to keep a track of their car's fuel consumption/fill ups, or who have so many cars that a reminder of MOT dates or services is handy.

I have been doing things in Excel for years but a mobile app would seem to be a better idea. I bought "FuelLog" on Android years ago which seemed OK but I never got into the habit of using it, and struggle to import my Excel data.

I am just trying out Fuel.io at the moment which seems decent, but again importing is tricky and it is weird in that you can only "add" a petrol station when you are there, not afterwards, for "security purposes" confused

Anyway, what are people using?

Mods: thought here was better than the Computer forum as it's car related...

(edited as I typed fuelly rather than fuel.io!)

I use Fuel.io for Android.
It works well, but I don't bother with the Cost/Reminder functions. I expect they're well thought out though.
Fuel.io can import/export Excel data, and you can add or edit the petrol station location after a fill.

I'm an idiot, I actually meant fuel.io! Not had any luck with the import function, can't see any files or create. Can't see a way to add petrol stations without being there and developer specifically states this is deliberate!

I've just managed to add a location to one of my fill ups that didn't have one.
  • Find the entry in the mileage log
  • Long tap to bring up menu and choose edit
  • Tap "Select" under petrol station
  • Choose map tab
  • Find and tap petrol station
  • Tap on tick to finish
Simples!

I've also just added the first year service as a cost, and exported to a csv file. The file contains both fuel and cost entries. The format looks fairly simple and it should be possible to import it into Excel or LibreOffice Calc. I haven't tried it, but I think you could add your entries to the csv and then reimport it into fuel.io. The trick is making sure that you don't break the formatting with your spreadsheet program - check it with a text editor if necessary.

Thanks for all that - unfortunately adding the petrol station only works if it's on the map. My two most local ones aren't and I can only add them when I am there!

I agree the format is straightforward, however it can tell when you've tampered with the file and won't even give you the option to restore it frown

I guess you'll just have to wait for the petrol stations to be updated then..

At least you can get your data out - in case you decide to move away from the app. I'm surprised there haven't been more suggestions for alternative apps.

Am using Fuel Log as I wasn't sure my OBC was correct. Sadly, I think it is correct.

Is Road Trip available on Android?

I use it on iPhone, I only use it to track fill ups but there's a lot more info you can input.

I second this recommendation. I also use Road Trip and find it really easy to use.
