Which cars are classy these days?

Pisht, stopped caring about classy a few years ago. Now it's all about whatever car can get the poor person out of lane 3 the quickest.
Yep. So either something menacing or something battered. My old E-Class seems to do a great job of clearing the way ahead. Or the Hilux, but that's just because I look like a carefree driving it.
Would tend to agree with most of this thread. Was thinking about adding the old Defender to the list, in correct non-tint, non-alloy spec. Something dark blue or green with steel wheels and no chequer-plating. Just a standard, non-molested Defender.
Only other SUV/4x4 I'd nominate would be a Range Rover in dark green with silver wheels, cream interior and no tints. The XC90 is too school-run-mum for my liking.
I actually think the V70 had a certain class about it. You knew the owner wanted a half decent estate but didn't care too much about the badge. Agree with the new S90 and V90.
I've always been a Jag XJ fan, almost any older Jag has class as default, I think the X308 was probably the last with total class. The X350 in Sovereign or Exec trim also very classy.
Agree with big French cars, the C6 is always a sight to behold. Exceptions would be the Grand Picasso. To a degree I think the 2CV has a certain class.

Not only that everything these days is marketed it as an AMG Msport R design ST, the proper sport model has died and just bulbous crashy st on massive wheels replaces it on cars that don't need it.
Few weeks back I had the displeasure of 11 hours in the back a new C300 Diesel Hybrid and hands down the worst car I have ever had to sit in, it's badged as an AMG and has big stupid wheels, and everything has been aimed at being "sporty" when in reality it's a diesel hybrid that isn't fast, looks close to the standard model but just has huge wheels on rubber bands, it's crashy and horrible and the seats are made of wood because apparently Sport/AMG means stiffen everything, there's nothing classy about it, it's just a chintzy pile of poop and I only expected better, it's not even good on fuel.
Everything is designed these days to be some sort of aggressive track car that we just drive up and down the motorway everyday, class has long gone.

Maybe?
Is the OP right about the Golf nowadays? I'm not sure. I'd agree the R has damaged things to a degree, partly due to the ridiculous 4 exhaust tips and partly allowing the cheap lease deals that allowed the car to be affordable to most.
However, I still think the GTI still has a certain amount of class / classlessness that it's nearly always had. The fact that it's not the most powerful, fastest or lairiest of its ilk, despite the price, goes in its favour as it's of limited appeal to boy racers and therefore attracts a different type of customer. I'll put my neck out and suggest that, amongst new car offerings, a GTI in a subtle colour is classy.

Current Z4? Probably have the best image of any modern BMW and look more svelte rather than aggressive. Can't say I've seen them driven by bellends. Dark blue with cream interior...
That was what I was looking for... nothing around in my price bracket so ended up with black and black leather. Not sure it's very classy though. Heathwood said:

I'm sorry to inform you chap but anything vag is fawned over as the car of choice for gangsters, drug dealers,However, I still think the GTI still has a certain amount of class / classlessness that it's nearly always had. Boy racers, chavs, have you been away for ten years

I completely and utterly agree. And definitely not just because I've got one. I'd say they're more 'classless' than 'classy', but thinking about it maybe there's not much difference between the two? I'd say a Volvo XC70, V70 or V90 fits the bill too but I'm not sure about the XC90 - it's certainly the best out of its peer group but it's still a bit in-your face IMO.
Me too. I love Subarus precisely because they are simultaneously anonymous but not a popular enough sight to be boring. You also get to enjoy the image of rally drivers hooning bright blue ones with gold wheels in the back of your mind, which is just cool.wildcat45 said:
It's often down to how the car is specd.
For example, near me there is a pretty old Range Rover L322 with an expensive private plate that has been on various Range Rovers since I've lived here, 35 years.
Anyway, this Range Rover is green, clear Windows so you can see inside and it sits on small wheels. From memory, it doesn't even have sat Nav.
To me,that's a classy car. You could roll up to Buckingham Palace in it to pick up your night hood and it would fit in despite the fact that it's probably 13 years old.
Controversially, I'd include the present RR Sport in the classy category. But it would need to be low spec, in a modest dark colour with clear glass and small wheels.
I'd put the Discovery 4 in a similar colour in the classy category.
Whilst I wholeheartedly agree, I'm pretty sure I got the piss royally ripped out of me for saying the same thing once on the Council thread. Good shout on the QP though - if ever there was a car that oozed sophisticated class

I think a LWB A8 ( basic wheel spec please) carries a good degree of presence, and arguably class.

Black or dark blue please.
I'm not so sure about the newer ones though.

No Audi made in the last 15 carries any form of class, let us just stop that right there.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
