So, this will probably be an argument which rages until the end of time. Will the two filters (oil) be the same or will the one from ECP be manufactured to a lower quality control level hence the lower cost?

It depends if it's actually a Mann filter or just branded as such.

If it's actually a Mann part, manufactured on the same line, I just don't see it being worth the effort to create complexity in part design.

Whats the price difference?

£2? £3?

Seems like a false economy to me. When I service my car, the parts come from BMW. Easier cause I can go in, and get all the parts in 1 visit. The Oil comes from wherever is cheapest at the time.

Or you can spend half an hour weighing up to get the oil filter and sump ring from ECP. The air filter from eBay and the spark plugs from Halfords. Then wait a few days whilst GSF get the pollen filter as they're out of stock laugh

I've been using Mann filters in my GTI for the last 2/3. Comparing the OEM filter and Mann ones I am 99.9999999% sure they are the same and made in the same factory.

Get the exact same part (and part number) as the ECP one for less from carparts4less.

Cant comment on oil filters but I bought a replacement Mann pollen filter from ECP this week and it turns out to be identical to the one fitted, same Mann part number, just doesnt have the Audi logo and their pt no.

Even the TRW boxed M arms have the M logo grinded off so they must be more expensive to make !

There's no argument in this particular case. The Mann filter will be the same part as the Audi branded part.

Or just get them from Amazon delivered.

For my A8 its either £26 for a genuine Audi one or £6 for a MANN one from ECP so a sizeable difference. I only asked because I got a genuine one from Audi for my last service and it had MANN printed on the end of it.

AFAIK car manufacturers don't make their own filters. Their logo is just printed for branding / marketing purposes. They'll use a range of different suppliers, quite possibly changing over the duration of the vehicle's manufacturer. Just stick to the main brands and you'll be ok.

To the person who thinks buyers are waiting ages in ECP, then Halfords etc, most places offer free delivery or click and collect. It could hardly be quicker.

A trip to the main dealers takes most of my morning out.

1.5hr round trip, (min) 1/2 an hour in the dealer while parts bloke fannys about/picks his spots/gooses the receptionist or whatever they do whilst they should be serving customers.

And that's if you can find a parking spot.

Free delivery from ECP every time for me.

I have never waited for parts longer than in a main dealer.
Even for a simple thing like an air filter or a touch up pen you can be stood there 15 or 20 minutes.
I can only imagine they have a secret entrance to the magical world of Narnia when they go to retrieve these items.

I think Last time I stopped off was on route to a trackday. Thought wise to just grap a litre of oil from Toyota dealer as I was passing.
Told them I had toyota 2ZZ engine and use 5w40. Took an age with then wanting Reg/Vin to identify the engine so their computer could tell them which oil was needed. 5w40 surprisingly! Eventually he disappears off into the back for circa 15 min and finally comes out and says sorry, we don't stock 1L fully synth bottles.

FFS. Any motor factors and most decent petrol stations will have a 5w40 oil. Lesson learnt!

Or perhaps the nearest motor factors is just 5 minutes away wink

Could you explain the rationale there, how come sourcing the oil filter from the cheaper supplier is false economy but the oil isn't? Does the filter have magic mojo applied to it on the dealership shelves that oil doesn't?

Get the exact same part (and part number) as the ECP one for less from carparts4less.
They're the same company though, except car parts 4 less sell the really st stuff ECP doesn't, if ECP are poundland, cp4l are B&M or Buyology
