Looking at all the new Audis and VWs, no one in the UK cares at all about a car manufacturer lying to their faces about how much noxious gas their cars emit and slowly killing them and their loved ones.

The government decided these emissions were important. The manufacturers decided their customers don't care.

Why is no one questioning why the government is legislating against stuff the electorate don't care about?

As above, no one really cares that much, if at all.

Yes, you mean we all learned to take the published mpg figures with a tub of salt so unlikely to be upset about NOx.

Yes they will, but as disappointing to many as it may be, VAG are not going anywhere anytime soon.

"The study, undertaken by YouGov, was commissioned by the environmental law organisation ClientEarth on behalf of the campaign for a new Clean Air Act. "

Yes, I can see no way that there was likely to be any bias in the questions or interpretation of results at all....rolleyes

Almost no-one actually cares about emissions, NOX etc..., people only care about things that impact them directly in a financial way, ie. MPG, and even there we all know manufacturers figures are *****cks so we just knock 10 or so off to get the real figure.

And only 1,670 adults canvassed.

The main reason no one cares is because they know the diesel demonisation is 'fake news' promulgated by eco-loons and vested interests, there is no realistic health risk whatsoever.

Air has never been cleaner in cities.

The evidence suggesting that prolonged exposure to NO2 kills is not anecdotal! There's plenty of studies from none vested interests that support this. Taking the opposite opinion is on a par with suggesting that smoking doesn't kill.

In some cities, in some areas the mean levels of NO2 are high. We know prolonged exposure to high levels of NO2 can kill. 2 + 2 does in fact equal 4.

That is what 4-star fanatics used to say in the 1920s to 1980s before leaded petrol was banned...

The evidence that diesel (and petrol) vehicles spew out bad stuff which harms the lungs, heart and brain of babies, children and adults is overwhelming. People who live near busy roads die younger than those who live away from them (due to air and noise pollution).

If diesel is not bad for you, then please go ahead and stand 5 feet behind a diesel bus chucking black soot out the exhaust for 8 hours every day and see how many years you live...

Dirty diseasels have had their day. Time for them to go.

Just like the recent study to say 10 fruit and veg a day is now good for you. Who wrote that study? A vegan.

People who live near busy roads are also typically in poor socio economic groups, so other factors like diet and healthcare come into play.

Indeed. First logical fallacy of statistical analysis - correlation does not equate to causation. Yipper's assertion in brackets is exactly that - an assertion. They may indeed be contributory factors, but spending bilions of pounds mitigating them may be wasteful when spending the same or less money on education on diet and healthcare may achieve better gains.

Just saying, like.
