So is this mid engined sports car like the original or will this be competing with the Pug RCZ? Visually it is striking and a great homage to the original but IMO this will fail if it is really a FF hot hatch pretending to be a sports car.
It's mid engined, rwd.
Is it based on the twingo/smart platform?

My sentiments exactly; they're asking Porsche Cayman money for a french car that's raided the Clio parts bin. Hopefully it's excellent and people who can afford one can see through that sort of mindset.
I think only people who can't afford one have that sort of mindset on PH !

Everything is st and ugly.

No it's based on the Simca 1000.

Having seen pictures of the interior, I think "raiding the Clio parts bin" is a bit harsh.

I'm kind of worried how well finished the car will be.

The above interior shot certainly gives an impression of a very elegant yet purposeful interior, yet the exterior pics make the car look a tad cheap.

Perhaps it's just the silly wheels.

Really hoping this turns out to be great!

Now I thought exactly the opposite, that interior pic looks rather plasticky to me with a strong whiff of training shoe about it but I think the exterior looks great. Horses for courses and all that, I'll reserve proper judgement of the interior until some better photos are available.
Totally agree with the plastic looking bits but you never know until you get your mits on it.

Lets just say I hope it's nothing like our Alpine GTA back in the day.

ETA: I agree about the wheels though.
Like the Alfa 4C....gorgeous on the outside, questionable on the inside...
The wheels could be worse....but they could be better...

Well. I quiet like this new Alpine. And of course the proportions are "all wrong"
This could perhaps lead to human beings actually being able to take place behind the weel.

Keen on seeing the interior.

It'd be great fun if it was.

Looks good, but....I really hope they price is sensibly.

I haven't seen any indication of the likely pricing but if they aim for Cayman-like pricing at £60k, it will be as rare as the original is now.

I like it, but the wheels are pretty awful. Surely they could have done a better job there?

The new car was displayed last month at Rétromobile.
Surprised PH seems to have sent someone there without a mention of this...

Pricing is key now. I'm expecting 4C money.

That's not production spec though, which the new images are.

Why ?
Two reasons. Firstly, their previous attempts at a crappy paddle gearbox were comically crappy. The chances of catching up with the rivals offerings? slim to none.

Secondly, this car isnt about ten tenths driving or round town ease so why why not give it a proper drivers gearbox for a proper drivers car? You could say that a Cayman is spec'd with a PDK more often than not but thats more often than not bought because of the badge. That wont happen with this because its not a porsche. Its a light weight sports car aimed at enthusiasts, so give it what they want. Surely the previous renault sport clio sales figures show its not the right direction?

Cosmetically it's really not changed much in the nearly two years it's been knocking about...

Shouldn't it be more like Elise money than Cayman money? I dunno.

Not really floating my boat, and there is zero chance this could persuade my wife to abandon her Porsche.

What do you mean? This human being seemed to fit in the old car OK.

Good God, it looks hideous. Proportions all wrong.
Just like the original - it looks fabulous.
Good.
If half the world thinks it's fabulous and half thinks it looks awful, they will have done their job superbly.
If everyone thought it was inoffensive and bland it would be gone and forgotten in short order.

I love it, but I certainly get that other people won't like it at all.
