I think If i had the money I would have one but they are not being delivered to the uk till 2018 €55000 is a little steep and it would be nice for it to have a high reving na engine but will be nice to see a few about among the sea of Porsches and tts

So if it flops you think the automotive landscape would be a better place without a lightish mid-engine sports car ? Or that less competition is a good thing ?

Or do you think that looks are totally objective ?

I really like it (apart from the wheels, obviously). I like the way it looks like an evolution to the classic Alpine and I think I could live with the spangly interior as long as it was well put together.
You never know, it could be the next Clio V6.

I think it would be a good change from the sea of Caymens and TTs.

Just realise a 1.6 turbo isnt that what WRC are using right now? Could be awesome!

Good God, it looks hideous. Proportions all wrong.
Just like the original - it looks fabulous.
Agreed, it's a refreshingly unusual shape and looks all the better for it. and i love the lights/nostrils on the front.

Look forward to seeing them on the road already.

I am a little pessimistic about the 1000kg weight. I mean, an alfa 4c was around that weight and that had a full CF tub and no carpets!! really don't see how they can stick to that unless I am missing something here...

Price is key!

I think a sonorous engine and a sweet gearbox are also well up in the must haves!

Price it £30k - £40k and it will temp folk out of their entry spec boxsters, TTs, and high end hot hatches.

Who else thinks it looks just like an Audi TT or is just me?

Christ..really?
No it looks just like an RCZ hehe

dear oh dear...

this'll be a high powered FI 4cyl with EPIC crackles and INSANE pops...and a farty DCT that makes you feel race driver, but actually detracts from engagement...
I'd certainly not say no to this or a 4C...but I'm really REALLY sad that they don't offer a gearbox the likes of which an MX5 or an S2000 have... I'm not anti tech... I am anti railroading everyone into a chosen route...

Here's the problem, it's almost certainly going to be over £50k - Which is in my opinion absurd, I would be very interested in this car if it was to be priced correctly ... I just cannot see how it will appeal at that price point, whilst Alpine is undoubtedly a name with a lot of history - It's also a name that hasn't been around for a very long time, to the point where to the majority of people interested in cars of this type it's irrelevant and may as well be a brand new start up manufacturer (Or what it is, a Renault coupe) ... I love Renault, but nobody spends £50k on a new Renault...

It's a shame as at the right price point they could have sold a lot and rebuilt the Alpine brand. With that in mind despite looking like it could be a great car to me it feels like a short-sighted exercise, but what do I know?

Exactly, around that price point there is strong competition:

Porsche 718/ 718S: probably better as a dialy driver plus brand/ image bonus
Alfa 4C: carbon tub, likely to be lighter, more exotic and - subjective of course - better looking
Exige V6: likely to be unbeatable as a driver's car, significantly more powerful, available as both manual and auto

I'd say there is not much room for the Alpine given that competition.

Proper 3 pedal 6 speed manual.

It's about driver engagement!

I agree with this chap and the person who said it's not a 10/10s car. I love a good modern automatic but in a car like this I'd want a manual so that I can feel submerged in the process of driving rather than most efficiently chasing the most effective package of statistics.

Renault must have done some soul searching after the Clio RS got panned because of the box so hopefully there will be a choice of boxes.

You mean a driving enthusiast that likes to control as much of the car's abillity by his own driving skills thumbup
I really like this alpine and would of been sorely tempted to buy one but unfortunately they didn't give it a choice of transmissions so unfortunately I'm going to have to miss out on this one frown

yeah but is it going to be rear-engined? otherwise it's just a marketing gimmick.

When are they doing an A310 replacement?

Thing is... these aren't likely to be anyone's primary transport. For 55k euros/ £42k you could get an original A110. If I had that sort of money, that's what I'd do. Different target market etc. etc. but nonetheless...
