Yeh, having had a GTD go back earlier this year with alloy damage, scratches, small dents and one large dent which resulted in zero fees I would never bother getting a lease car fixed again, ever. I got a quote for the dent of £600+VAT. When the assessor looked at this dent he just said, "£35 for that".... But it was all under the £150 threshold that BCA allocate....

The BCA chap I had (in fact I've had the same bloke 3 times) was saying that the way that the regs work is a bit daft - you can get some really tatty looking cars coming back with 4 kerbed alloys, several dings, scratches and chips and there is no charge because they all come in under the size threshold, however if you have one scratch that is 1.25 inches long you'll get billed for it.

When I had the previous E class I knocked a bicycle onto it and scratched the rear quarter. I had this fixed which entailed a significant amount of the side of the car being blended in as well as the C pillar - arse of a job because of the iridescent sort of paint. A few weeks later I wrote the car off.

Two things I learned from this - don't bother fixing the scratches and if you're leasing a car don't get a fancy colour; I hate them but I can see the logic in getting a white one now.

Jumping on the back of this thread, does anyone have experience of Network/Leasplan's current costs for alloy damage? I have a curbed wheel and am debating whether to get repaired or let them do it (or charge me for it at least). They're diamond cut 19's if that makes a difference?

I see someone was charged £50 further up the thread but wanted to see if anyone had more recent experience?

TIA!
On returning our leased 3-Series to Network we were quoted £150 to for a kerbed diamond cut alloy (2 were kerbed, 1 significantly) and a problem with the rear bumper (which I didn’t see).

The collection guy told my wife that they sometimes absorb the 1st £150 of damages and that’s exactly what happened, no bill ever appeared.

You might be lucky as well.

Cheers, I bet they don’t take into account I’ve only done half my allocated mileage though!

Chap from BCA came to inspect it, then another came later same day to pick it up.
He inspected it, and showed me the damage and gave me a print out of the cost there and then.

I've just had the damage statement in for one of our company cars.

Wheel damage is £65 per rim (2 rims damaged)

Front bumper damage is £113.10

Dented front wing is £143.70

Oddly enough, they are not charging VAT on any of that, I am not sure why (or even how it qualifies as VAT exempt for that matter).

We've not had the excess mileage bill yet, that will be impressive I think; our three cars ended up being quite a bit over, despite being on a pooled mileage deal.

Our invoice was also zero VAT.

My BMW is being collected by Arval on Thursday - their returns pack suggests they won't bill you if total charge is less than £150. Is that right? I've got a kerbed alloy, small scratches and a number of stone chips - I have tried to touch up the chips.

I also have a slight bulge out on the tyre - does the tyre need replacing?

Thanks

Just leave it alone, you will be fine.

I'm quite suprised that across the board leasing companies seem to be very reasonable with their return proceedure, not trying to fleece you at every corner like other industries do.

Never knew about the <£150 charge, so you may be ok.
As has been said though, don’t fix anything yourself - not worth the hassle and time.

I had one chip on a door that’d gone down to the primer - was quite obvious so I just did a neat touch up and was fine.

I also hit a pheasant at rather high speed a year or so ago, and ended up with a slight crease on the lower plastic valance - this was pointed out and charged for (£130), but having found the car now for sale at a dealer, it’s not been repaired.

Body damage is probably ok but there are guidelines available that will give you a good idea.
Tyre will probably be charged for if you don’t replace it. I‎t might be cheaper to let them charge you though, and there’s always a chance they won’t bother anyway.

thanks all. Apparently the sidewall bulge is a critical risk and they may refuse to drive away the car so I have had to shell out £200 for a replacement tyre today frown Shame as the tread was 5 across the board

I will leave the other stuff alone.

To be fair, it is potentially dangerous, and as a former fleet manager, I wouldn’t be comfortable suggesting a driver takes the risk of going on the motorway with I‎t.

I have just had car inspected by Total Motion(Pink Leasing). They have quoted me £440 for damages to all 4 wheels. This is for scratches rather than chunks being missing. I have in the past been charged for one or two wheels at around £50 per wheel so this seems a bit excessive.

Has anyone had doamond cut wheels repaired and been passed in the past?
