It's one thing, surrounded by one bezel, and it's a dash. That is a gopping interior though. I feel seasick just looking at it.
Jesus, have we got to the point where an interior like that is not up to peoples high standards !
It is called progress, cars will have LCD screens for all instruments from now on, they have to have the screens for Nav and stereo nowadays, its expected, why have physical instruments and limit the functionality ?
We are used tot hings looking a certain way, these changes do tend to happen in the more expensive end of the market, it will filter down, in a few years I cant imagine we will have a physical speedo, rev counter or any other gauges, all the sensors are on the Can Bus tied into the ECU, the digital values have to then be converted to an analogue gauge, with moving parts.
You can rattle on all you want about real wood and Smiths gauges, very nice but that time has gone, the future has arrived and it has many screens, on everything, it will seem normal soon and moving needles will seem like quaint old whimsy.
Remember when the Sierra came in, people couldn't get used to it at first, we arent good with step changes, we like incremental improvements and familiarity, this is all a bit much at the moment but in ten years cars with old school dashboards are going to look a bit well, old.
I got asked why I wanted Sat Nav by someone the other day, whats wrong with a map ffs, oh do fk off back to the 1950's (ok, she was born in the late sixties) but really ? nothing like trying to read a map on your own whilst navigating a strange town centre, why is it with some things people see it as a badge of rank and being above things ? "Oh you wouldn't get me on Facebook", fair enough but dont make out you are some superior being !

Oh, and dismissing a car from 2017 with brand new architecture based on an SLK from 15 years ago and an SL from 11 years ago. Yeah that's sensible...
Not really. Reputations are hard won and easily lost. Ask anyone who went down the Merc road during the rust-bucket Chrysler years and there will be horror stories. In all likelihood they've got their st together now and the cars are great. Sadly it's lost on me as I'm driving a BMW. I'm sure there are plenty who got mugged by the 97-'07 cars and handed over their Merc keys muttering the words 'never again.'moffat said:
Why?
The 6 series doesn't and has never competed with the E class.
The 6 series at a list of £67k competes with the CLS and Audi A7 with the Gran Coupe and kind of on its own with the Coupe and Convertible.
The CLS and A7 start at around 47k so the 6er gran coupe (starts at 59k BTW) is also on its own hence they have been discounting the arse out of them on a £499 lease deals or up to 20k off list. The 6 series doesn't and has never competed with the E class.

This e-class coupe is based on the e-class saloon this time unlike the out going model and the 6er is based on the F series platform shared with the old 5er and 7er so can be seen as a competitor in terms of base platform and size.
The 6er was over priced for the market hence the huge discounts available they will knock 15k of the price of a 640i without haggling which goes some way to bringing it down into the e400 e-class coupe price range.

.... these machines are style over substance. Rattles, electrical gremlins (Renault parts) and plastic components in the cabin that break similar to dysons is not good at all.

I test drove a 2016 c250d coupe demo car last week. The seat recline adjustment was not working, neither was the stop-start. The salesman seemed embarrassed. Amazing car, great performance for a 4 pot engine, not sure about the electrics though. John
If only the 6 cylinder was slightly more competitively priced ...
