The trim is plastic exactly because some wear is expected, get some plasti-shine and brush it up every few thousand miles if you care that much.

ok so lets say its a design fault.
what do you want out of this exactly?

Redesign the rear trim for you?
put on a new one every 6k miles?

Did you not view ANY other cars of the same type on autotrader, in the show room or real life, surely there is one out there that has more than 6k miles on it, did you check if they have the same issue?

if it upsets you so much, change the car
Its a new model. NO i don't want it redesigned. I want the plastic replaced and a shield attached FOC

So you placed your order before having the chance to see the product in the flesh?
Some teething issues are to be expected, then.

So, yes, you DO want it redesigned.

Eh! You want a plastic trim replacing with a new plastic trim but with an additional plastic trim fitted to it to protect the new plastic trim but accepting that the plastic trim which has been added to the plastic trim will get damaged in the same way that the original plastic trim did..... can you see where the problem is with your request, or will you later ask for the plastic protection trim to be replaced FOC, or a further plastic trim to be added to protect the plastic protection trim....

Sorry if I'm missing something, but would it not be easier to buy some 3M 'helicopter' tape and apply it yourself?

This sort of thing

Mountain bikers use it on the down tube to stop the frame getting chipped by stones from the front wheel

not going to happen. next you'll be after suing the council for the roads being dirty and throwing grime up on the side of your new car.

just accept that cars get dirty, stone chips, damaged during normal day to day use and move on. maybe ask to go in the first world problem thread.

I got a stone chip in my screen the other week ( tiny ). it came out of a tyre from the car in front. should tyres be redesigned to stop this from happening?

don't let it worry you. there's little kids starving in the world frown

Which bit of that is "utter drivel"?

Either you saw the product in the flesh, in which case you had the chance to see if there were issues like this, or you didn't.
Either you want the plastic replacing every time it gets "damaged", or you're happy to accept that "damage".
Either you want the car in the exact current form, or you want it redesigning.

Makey-mindy-uppy.

Looking at the trim, it doesn't appear to be gouged or scraped and I suspect it's there for this exact purpose that, that area of the car gets a bit of a hammering.

Ok, so you'd think a 6k miles old car wouldn't show any signs of wear and tear but, well it still has 6,000 miles on the clock and in that time it may have been driven down a freshly laid road (gotta love that stone hitting arches noise!) or an unmade road which may have done it.

Personally I think if you de-tar the are and give it some sort of plastic treatment it will come up like new.

I don't want to be the typical PH-er who scoffs at peoples' expectations but I think replacing the trim and expecting the dealer to fit a paint protection film for free, is a but beyond reasonable.

I guess if the bonnet gets chips the OP will want it redesigned with a shield put over it so it doesn't happen again. What about damage from stones to alloy wheels? I guess they need shields too. The rest of the bodywork? Shield it.

VW may very well sort it out. They say they will see if they can clean it off. When they can't.......

rofl 6k miles isn't new, either enjoy it and don't worry about it, or get it fixed and apply protection. Do you expect all new cars to come fully protected with clear paint protection? How do you respond to paint chips?

When they can't, they'll offer to replace the trim for you.

At a discounted cost from parts list price and standard labour rates.
