One of my mates has a Mk2 (and a Mk1) RS and the first night we went out I was suprised that my other friend was able to pull a 3 car length on the Mk2 in his standard EP3. The 5 pot seems to take a long time to get working, but obviously once on boost it went off down the road.
I don't usually butt-in on these kind of posts but i do reckon that Mr Focus RS had a bad day driving here and the only reason this could have happened.

EP3's wheel spin like mad and even if he was in the wrong gear, those turbos would be spooling up long before VTEC would have had chance to kick in.
I was in the Mk2 and I drive an EP3 so I was expecting the Mk2 to maul it.

Does anyone have the production numbers for the Mk2 Rs?
There always seem to be an awful lot for sale for something that is often billed as a collectors car.

I think around 8000 for the UK, 4000 for the ROE and 500 RS500's.

Was up for buying the new Mk3 soon as they anounced it was 4 door that is going to be a residual nighmare like the old Cosworth Saphire sorry Fords but history will prove me right.
You obviously haven't looked at the price of Sapphire Cosworths recently. A residual nightmare? Certainly not, the cheapest 140k miler is £13k and a low mileage one is £40k+. Obviously history has already proven you wrong.
I haven't looked at prices recently but I'm guessing they're well behind 3dr Cosworths. At least the 3dr looked special and had motorsport history, wasn't the Saphire basically a way to use up all the Cosworth engines Ford were contracted to buy ?. If I was a multi millionaire nostalgia would probably make me stump up for an RS500, I wouldn't have a sapphire at any price though.

Agreed.

I think Sapphire Cossies have become valuable because they have become rarer, 3 doors and RS500 derivative are astronomical because they have the cachet of being not a chav piece of st and cool.

should have said, only 100 or so RS500's for the UK though. 500 was the total build.

So it,s done 45 miles in the past 7 years which means it has deteriorated worse than a car that has been driven 5000 miles a year. It has been an abandoned car. But it is the best colour.

If its been kept in a warm dry garage then this is certainly not the case.

It might have a few small issues, that a bit of use would no doubt help sort out, but listening to some of the remarks on here you'd think everything will be after melting into the ground.

One issue on the lack of servicing, think it's had one service, but they had constant updates on the map.

For reasons such as the lack of power when first released, and the exploding plenum issue. Basically at each yearly service a new map would be uploaded, so a fair few of these may have been missed.

Car market back on the up recently. It has found a fresh set of legs. Prices for some models, from Ford, Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo and a few others, are going mental again this year.

Exactly. It's not a competitor. It's a practical hot hatch that is cheap to run and new costs half the price of the other 2. It's a different category of car to either with less power.
Focus RS cheap to run? OK.

Hardly a Kia Rio.

And when VTEC 'kicks in,' it's all noise rather than shove anyway.

Hardly a Porsche or Ferrari either. Its a hatchback Ford and parts are cheap, tyres may be a bit pricey as per any car with big wheels. Compare the price of parts with a Japanese car and they are very cheap.

Tyres are about £160 for Continentals.
