RE: 45-mile Focus RS goes to auction
Discussion
Assuming they paid list for it and that its delivery mileage - ie its not really car but a 1.5 tonne piece of art - the owners have not used it. It doesn't seem to be the best investigate if they achieve the lower end of estimate - as they most have spent at least £600/year on average insuring it, servicing & MOT'ing it. So they'll have made just over £2K, assuming they can garage it for nothing. At least the silly 964RS prices & rocking 968CS values don't seem to penalise your for using it.

What does 7-8 years storage cost? Surely after fees they wont even be that far ahead!?
Storage could mean 'in the garage', surely? Doesn't have to have cost anything to store it.Either way, assuming this wasn't done intentionally as an investment, a positive or even neutral return on a 7 year old Ford that could be bought by anyone for £25k is pretty good going. Most 7 year old £25k cars with one service that have been sat around would be lucky to see 50% of their original value.

It's been serviced once, for all we know it's only been taxed once as well. I'm assuming a zero mile insurance policy on a secured £25k car is going to pretty cheap. If the owners have for whatever reason just not been able to use it (i.e. rather than an intentional investment), they've lucked in by it being a Mk2 Focus RS rather than a heavily depreciating vehicle (i.e. almost any other 7 year old £25k car).
A family member has, for a variety of reasons, got a 20 year old Mondeo in his garage that has barely turned a wheel. Obviously it's pretty much worthless, but these things do happen for many different reasons.

And there are way better investments if you have £36k lying around.
Any suggestions? For me cars are all about driving them, In the past i've had cars and sold them and in the advert put things like "won't sell for less than X as I'd rather have it as a garden ornament", truth is I don't want a car as a garden ornament...I want to take it to shows or hell even dare to do a track day!
If Goodwood festival of speed teaches us anything, it's cars need to be driven...
I saw a track-prepped GT86 with 25,000 miles on the clock... Fully stripped, turbo'd, rebuilt engine with forged internals etc. etc. for £25k.
As for the investment, the only way they will be making money on it is if they didn't get it on finance, or interest free at least. ~£20k (assuming a £5k deposit and no options) then the interest over a normal finance agreement will be fairly chunky. Plus the costs of insurance, the service etc. I don't think they'd actually *make* all that much on it.
Likewise, it doesn't actually say it has an MOT does it...?
EDIT: Just DVLA checked it. It has covered 7 miles in the past year. I'd wager the MOT station is 3.5 miles away lol

An old boy at work has one of these in white which he bought new. Don't know the mileage, but he uses it every day. It's very well looked after and totally original. He reckons it's still worth £21k. Seems like a very good investment, but as much as I like the cars (especially the RS500), how they can be worth that sort of money I really don't know!

I think (other than RS cars always being sought after) part of the reason is that the same shape mk2 Focus ST3 is still £12k even though it is lacking all the extra components that makes the RS special. Then a stepdown from the ST3 you have the ST1&2 and then there are the pre facelift STs which cost anything from £5k to £10k.If you want a fast mk2 focus then there are lots at every price range. I think the ST does a good job of keeping the RS prices up there.
Proof aesthetics are playing a part?- would it be so in demand if you could get the new RS as a three door.... or if new RS looked a little better.
Clearly the new RS is excellent, however, in the looks department the old one is so much nicer, more complete vehicle rather than body kitted car (subjective I know).
That aside once investors kick in the greater fools theory takes hold..
