One of those stupid factoids that sounds dead impressive until you work out an average family car can put out 1000lb/ft in certain circumstances.

Just goes to show that speed isn't everything....
Althoug I'm not a fan of the willy-waggling about who is fastest around 14-odd mile of prime German road/track, I never thought I'd hear myself say that I would indeed actually prefer to watch the latest Nissan GTR or its ilk thundering around there. In fact I'd rather watch the now-unemployed Ed China attempt a lap in his motorised garden shed to set a record.
I can't wait to hear what James May has to say about it on the next series of The Grand Tour either.
To be fair the whole video sounded like our Dyson when my son accidental hoovered up the school hamster.....

Yes, but only at the absolute bottom of the RPM range, which is what all electric motors do. As the RPM increases the torque rapidly reduces.

I fast forwarded through much of the film, but it seemed to be running out of puff towards the end of the straight.

Strange there's no speedo on the video - you'd think they'd want to advertise the tremendous straight line speed. By way of perspective if it was on slicks (which I think can be assumed) is that it's only 2 seconds faster than a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup racecar, which has around 900bhp less grunt.

As a final note, come on PH and tell the world that it was designed and built by RML in Wellingborough here in the UK! You must know this, surely?

The skittery bumpy ride, the weird whiney noise, teamed with the nurburgring........was I the only one reminded on the old video game Wipeout whilst watching that?

Sorry, but that's barely relevant at all. That's like saying that a car with 1000bhp is dead impressive until you work out that an average commuter saloon has 200bhp in certain circumstances. A Koenigsegg 1:1 has a peak torque at the wheels of 3400lb/ft in 1st gear. So that's still over 1000lb/ft short of the Nio and I don't exactly see many people trying to suggest the Koenigsegg is short on torque and yet it's a 'mere' 2000lb/ft more than an 'average car'....

I couldn't give a flying fk if this thing did the 'ring' in one minute, never mind 7.

It sounds like a hair dryer. Electric cars are FAKE and soulless.

Most Pistonheads stereotypes in three sentences I've ever seen. Impressive.

Surprised by the lack of sound, wasn't this the car that sounded like a fighter jet when they initially started showing vids of it or was that just a soundtrack dubbed on later?

If so that's rubbish, surely car manufacturers have to realise that for petrolheads, one of the big things missing from EV's is aural drama and something about it?
The fighter jet noise is real, but it comes from the tyres, not the motors

Why is it so slow when it has so much power, is it a weight issue?

What fighter jet noise is this? On the video all you can hear is a god awful screechy whine of electric motors.

I'm almost 100% sure electric cars are real, I've seen them with my own eyes.

Weight doesn't affect top speed wink

The biggest issue with EVs is the rejection of heat from the motors and battery. When running flat chat on a race track, it's very difficult to keep everything cool enough to deliver full power. Tesla's in particular are bad for this. 1 or 2 full bore launches and you'll be down to about 75% of your total power.

That's a matter of development, with tsla making huge improvements already; the biggest issue is that a tank of fuel has 50 times the energy density of a lithium battery.

Almost looks too stiff for the Nurburgring - very twitchy on the bumpy bits and he hardly touches a kerb. Bet they'd shave quite a few seconds off with a softer setup.
It has monster aero, the diffuser (if you can call it that) is hoooge and runs under most of the length of the car, it wouldn't be possible with an IC car.

Despite being heavy the cornering forces it can generate are almost LMP level. I doubt it would 'work' with a softer setup.

As for all of the anti-EV stuff, Pistonheads has always been a home for it but fk me the quality of ludditery on here has gone downhill recently.

You better let am/red bull know the aero isn't going to work on the valkrie. See mclaren for adaptive damping. Ludditery? Nope. EVs are the future, doesn't mean all EVs are beyond critical discussion. How many laps can this thing do?

I don't even know what sort of suspension the Valkyrie will have! ETA Oh you meant the aero itself rather than the suspension being stiff? I was referring to the diffuser itself being impossible with IC rather than the amount of downforce the car can generate

I'm not saying EV's are beyond criticism I'm just saying that some of the 'anti' comments are spectacularly crap. Back when this were all fields we had a decent quality of Luddite with some valid and insightful reasons why they hated EV's

They are becoming much harder to hate. Ten years ago EV's were glorified golf carts.
