I am sick and tired of people outside our house going excessively fast. We live on a sort of main road through an estate which is a 30moh. Certain people ie chavs, mumsnet types in Audi suv's, business guys in white bmw's seem to treat the road almost like a racetrack. At the weekend the nice cars come out to play then we have several absolute dicks going at least 50 -60 passing out drive in a 30 zone. Yesterday I spotted the community speedwatch guys and stopped and spoke to them and suggested our road. They said yes they plan to do that next and they are always looking for volunteers.

Now I know it makes little difference as they have no powers etc but it might maybe slow some down if they were around more often. I do like to drive quickly and make progress where possible etc but never in 30 redisdential areas where there are people's drives and pedestrians etc so would I have to hand in my ph card and not look on the forum again if I joined them, also I'm not sure if it's full of hi vis wearing bearded lecturers who only ever go 28mph at best. I don't mind going quickly but only when appropriate

Thoughts please ?

Do you seriously give a fk what the PH collective thinks?

PH motto is "Speed Matters", doesn't specify how fast or slow!

IMO going too fast in residential areas is far naughtier than going a bit quick up a deserted road.

You do it past someone else's house = "making progress"

Someone else does it past your house = "treating our road like a racetrack"

They're already going to be doing it regardless of whether you volunteer or not, so IMO I'd leave the 'job' to somebody with nothing better to do.

Busy main road at the back of our house is exactly the same. They seem to race between traffic lights. Because of the area, they all tend to be hire cars full of young men.

I wouldn't dream of doing more than 30mph in a residential road, and on occasions that is too fast anyway. Nothing to do with the speed limit. Just out of consideration.

I don't think they treat it as a race track though as they probably never been near one. I find that people who track their car tend to drive with consideration on the road.

Who 'makes progress' round residential areas?

Yes, that's right, censored do.

OP, crack on.

60 in a 30 is stupid. Most sensible ph'ers whilst they enjoy driving fast would not condone exceeding the limit in a 30mph zone.

Being a petrolhead is as much about good driving as it is about driving fast. Going too fast in residential areas is not good driving IMO, exceeding the limit in other locations is less of an issue

And I'm not exaggerating about the 60, traffic lights at the bottom of the road and a straight ish 1/2 mile to a roundabout, side roads and people drives all over the place, kids on bikes as well. Bloody crazy the speed some go at

Driving like a tt in built up areas makes you a tt.

It's that simple.

I have no problem with 30mph residential roads being enforced.

Please take all the stupid "smart" motorway cameras out and NSL roads and put them in every 10ft on 30mph roads.

For reference they are drives on the right, a side road on the left and further side roads and drives all the way along for around 1/2 mile to a roundabout

This.

Ages ago the wife of the man I was working for at the time complained about the speed of traffic going past her house. The police duly appeared and did a speed check. They also gave her 3 points for speeding.

be careful what you wish for.

Agreed, the hallmark of a bad driver imo. Just a demonstration of how few brain cells are between the ears.

Why the hell do they design roads like this in the 1st place? It's obvious to anybody with more than a single brain cell what the outcome will be rolleyes

You are completely wrong, you will never catch me over the limit in residential areas, you might get me at 80 on a motorway and over 60 on a nsl road when well sighted though
