Has anyone tried the 190hp diesel with the DSG box in these?
I have that combination in my 2016 Alltrack. It's fking terrible, sadly. Not sure if Skoda s/w and/or engine management and/or throttle response will be the same in each application, but based on my VW it's a no from me.
Bloody 'ell did not expect that to be the case! I'm guessing they've pushed the fairly unstressed 150hp diesel beyond its capabilities with some half arsed ECU work then hehe

No me either to be fair! Still, it's a cheap lease so I'll suck it up until the end. Other than that it's a lovely car.

You can get the L & K Hatchback version for under £30K, list is £36K, if it for sale at £25k then that represents 17% depreciation in 1 year and 5000 miles.

Don't use dealer sticker prices as a guide for depreciation. That £25k includes prep time and costs, haggle room, etc. etc. and PROFIT. Unlikely that a dealer paid much more than £22K for it...

I know, but in terms of buying one used it isn't that big a saving.

I've been running the previous-generation 170bhp diesel with the DSG box for 2.5 years now.

I really like it 90% of the time. This is the first DSG box I have had, but not the first auto. It is considerably nicer than previous autos I have owned but those were all 80s/90s cars picked up cheaply.

Most of my mileage is commuting along dual carriageway and motorway miles and it is only when you want to really put your foot down that the limits of the narrow powerband are found. But that is rare because most of the time, I only want to boot it for a few seconds to get around some moron doing 65 who eventually moves over.

It isn't a car, or engine/gearbox combo, that lends itself to rally style driving. Far too large for that. My commute home, which is a different route to my route to work, takes me down some narrower country lanes but I lack the ability to exploit a gap because you need a very large gap to overtake someone who is only doing 35 in a 60 zone, but part of that is due to how wide the car is as well.

But the 90% of the time, I have enough power to make decent progress and the DSG box is very smooth, mine's now done 70,000 miles and it has been serviced every 10k. It will happily sit at motorway speed for hours on end and you can feel comfortable the whole time.

Wow, I did not think the DSG would be that bad at all, in fact I was looking forward to test driving a car with the gearbox! Is it the same for 120/150hp diesel engines?

Dunno mate. All I can tell you is the Alltrack is a very frustrating car to drive given the throttle response is so poor and the gearbox is always in the wrong gear. Which is a shame as otherwise it's very very good.

The 6 speed 'Wet' DSG on the 280 is great driven properly. On any given journey I will pretty much use all the modes. Drive, Sport and Manual. I've never been in he wrong gear or suffered from any type of perceived lag because I plan ahead.

I think the problem with these boxes is everyone just leaves them in Drive.

Only on the sportline. I replaced my grille and the surround with the black one and painted the window surrounds. Mine is the L&K but looks like a sportline on the outside now.

Bang on. My 220 is extremely capable on the back roads and A roads alike. The DSG really suits the engine, and in manual mode with an appropriate driving plan you'll never find it lacking. Cracking bit of kit for the money imho. For those who dislike the throttle response, I got a RaceChip Response Control pedal box and it transforms the power delivery. No more "nothing... nothing... kick down"! It favours in gear acceleration, doesn't change the power output and allows six extra driving modes to suit your mood / the road. It's like having sport mode with more control and not red lining every gear unless you actually want to. Highly recommended.

Yeah I've test driven a 220 Superb myself and had none of the problems I have with my Passat. I think it's 'modern VAG diesel' issue tbh.

Thanks. Although no-one else has picked up on it, I suspect (sub-consciously) it's one of the reasons people are saying it's cool!
I remember this being done DIY to Fabia vRS grille surrounds - manufacturers now taking inspiration from amateur customisers.
Looks great though. "Makes" the front of the car in my opinion.

This is my 2012 Petrol Blue Superb, replete with roofbox...

We had:
7 month old baby
3 year old lab
ageless wife...(!)
my fat self
Dog crate
High chair
and all of the st that goes with all four of us going away for a week!

We managed 43.5mpg on a round trip to Dorset from Berkshire this week and we were at a steady 70(ish) the whole way.

Bloody great car - badge snobs walk on by. I know it has been said already, but the size of these things is somewhere between an A6 and A8 and with alcantara seats is a seriously comfortable place to be.

If anyone wants to buy my old A6 Allroad off me, feel free, the Superb is a keeper!
