Which "classic" hot hatch would you most like to own?

Agreed, never have and never will consider the Integrale, Cossie or any other Grp A or B road version as a hot hatch.
Obviously that's just my opinion.
The Integrale was a proper production model and as worthy of the hot hatch tag as any other hot hatch. It's just UK/Brit ignorance that makes us think they were only limited run ultra cars for Grp B rallying.Obviously that's just my opinion.
There was the Delta HF Turbo which was 2wd, then there was the Delta HF Turbo 4wd, which was a 4wd Turbo version of the same car (a car which could be had with diesels and 1.3 litre petrol engines too). The HF Turbo 4wd then became the Delta HF Intergrale.
Now the confusion comes from marketing. The Delta S4 was a purpose built Grp B rally car, but rather like the Metro 6R4, shared little with the Delta production cars. However you really shouldn't confuse the regular Delta Integrale with the S4.
For the record, Lancia built and sold over 44,000 Integrales..... hardly a limited run rally car!
To answer the op.
Metro 6R4 would be choice number 1 for me. Regardless of the definition of "hot hatch".
But they are rare and pricey.
More realistically...
Which technically is not a hatchback nor a hot hatch, however it's really the same sort of thing and ticks all the boxes of what a hot hatch is, apart from the location of the boot lid hinges.
And left field, not exactly a hot hatch in the mainstream sense of the word. But it's a hatchback and could be had with a 5.0 litre V8 and RWD. Modified with sporty suspension and plenty of power, they are likely hugely entertaining and offering 'hot' performance.
However finding one in the UK is hugely unlikely.

This. Maybe the best-mannered car I've ever owned. Had 3 CRX's, one a V-tec. Quality of build would beat any other hatch on the road, and the NA engine in mine was 164BHP unfettled.
Yep. This. Superb bits of kit. Had mine for 14 years, I really wish I had the time and funds it needed to make it minty again. I miss that car and weridly so does Mrs V., she still occasionally derides me for selling it.
Huge thread bump
I'am a die hard Warm/Hot Hatch enthusiast, i've owned quite a selection over the years only modern-ish ones. Now i can't believe how many have been and gone over the years and currently reappearing out of the wood work, albeit for sale at rather mental prices! Which tbh i'd rather that way as it keeps them in existence.
Just few that i'd love to own,
Vauxhall Nova Sport

Homologation Special with a breathed on 1.3 SR engine producing a 93bhp screamer, myth is that the engine upgrades were delivered in the boot of the Sport at the supplied dealer to fit.
The 'proper' 205 Rallye

I do love the more focused, 'hardcore' Hatches. Special
I could just imagine the Sport and Rallye, two Homologation specials tearing down a good B-Road, the little breathed on 1.3's screaming out to the limiter whilst wearing a layer of winter grime
If only......

plebs with their mildly tuned shopping boxes
i will take this one thank you very much, i lusted after one when they came out and still do
^ absolutely one of these, no contest. What a beast. i will take this one thank you very much, i lusted after one when they came out and still do
Although, not sure if it counts as a hot hatch per se but I've always had a soft spot of the old wedge-shape Honda CRX with the double-glass tailgate.
I've had in the past:
Uno turbo mk1 and mk2
205 gti 1.6 and 1.9
MG metro and a Metro Turbo
Most recently a Sunbeam Lotus.
The Sunbeam was very well sorted and much better than a std car, plus had a bare metal resto so probably unfair comparison but id have another one tomorrow if need be.
The MGs were both crap but I was only 19 and thought they were the dogs danglies
Never fancied a golf, RS fiesta, RS turbo, or other hatch. Last year I drive a brand new Astra vxr and Corsa VXR round croft. The Astra is stunning for fwd compared to old crap, proper quick.

Always wanted one, but I've only ever driven one once. A collegue in the early 90's tried to sell me his. It was way out of my budget and the insurance woud have been a no no, but he still let me drive it like I'd stolen it round the streets of Stoke on Trent. To this day that was my maddest, most reckless and memorable drive in a car on roads - and probably rather stupid thinking about it now...
Problem is, if I got one now I'd have to treat it with a little restraint, and that would be missing the point

You would be a fair bit quicker down the same roads now in an Astra vxr believe me! Always wanted one, but I've only ever driven one once. A collegue in the early 90's tried to sell me his. Loved my 205gti , one was written off in an "incident"
My good old sunbeam lotus was quicker believe it or not, used to romp on in 3rd and 4th, lots of torque.
