10 mile car recovery - how much do you reckon it cost?

8.7 miles to be exact - how much?

Here's the scenario: Immobile Audi A8 in residents' off road parking area access to which is via an archway through which a recovery truck cannot pass. The car's brakes are locked on, the steering lock is on, there are no electrics whatsoever but it is possible to get into the car.

It needs to be taken 8.7 miles to an independent Audi specialist who has recommended the recovery company he usually uses. They call with one flatbed and two men, one of whom turns up in a second vehicle.

How much was the bill?

Given the relatively unusual nature of the requirements I could easily imagine it being £500+.

When i used to work for the RAC the standard contractor rate was 100 collection plus a pound a mile (charged as a round trip for the lorry, not point to point of the transport) Plus specialist equip costs (hiab, low loader, donor wheels if on bricks etc)

You'll need a hiab for that so it's got to be a few hundred.

A thief dumped a big 4WD of some sort on my neighbour's drive. Due to the layout of his driveway they had to drag it diagonally over a load of kerbs, then through his garden, then almost diagonally up onto the recovery truck. I thought they would have some kind of special dollies, but nope, just dragged the locked wheels. It did it no problem.

Made a bit of a mess of his garden though
