It may be 'a' difference between the average 'Polite' motorcyclist and this driver, but it makes no difference to the fact that what both people are doing is wrong, and very dodgy in the eyes of the police and the law. The pertinent question is: "Are they police?" No, then they shouldn't be behaving like this. That's all that matters here. I don't care if they are exclusive German Shepherd breeders for the international anti terrorist ninja commando squadron, they still aren't legit police.

For anyone who is interested:

Has anybody ever been done for impersonating Police using a "POLITE" vest or generally trying to disguise themselves as Police?

Southbound on the A34 this afternoon and a white BMW estate with headlights on came steaming up behind me in lane 2, big blue badge on bonnet, driver in white shirt, light bar on roof and three aerials, battenberg on the wings and an amount of kit in the back. Driver then starts using a handheld walkie style radio.
I could not go anywhere because of the traffic and sat and waited for the blue lights, in the meantime I spotted rectangular lights behind the grill too, chap is trying to 'dominate' the road and is too close for comfort, eventually I was able to move over only for him to pass as fast as he could and sit up someone elses backside.
As soon as he was past I could see it had warning stripes on the back and more battenberg on the rear wings... and some stickerage saying it was Motorola!

Really could not have made more of an effort to try and fool people, the guy then sat VERY close up someones backside travelling down an A road with two wheels on the central white lines to intimidate the poor driver in front.

I'm sure someone will tell me this is perfectly acceptable because of micro-detail a,b,c but it really wound me up.

Anyone else seen these Motorola vehicles?
If you had a rear dashcam you could easily have provided proof to his employers or the Police. If he was just a tt in a suit on his way to rep somewhere then I would only have made "reasonable" progress.

What's more worrying is whether the contacts he's made in that line of work enables him to get away with this sort of driving.
How much pull do you think a Motorola salesman has with the boys and girls driving the panda and traffic cars on the streets? laugh

.
Personally I don't know. I vaguely remember reading that someone got arrested for it a couple of years back, but I can't seem to find anything now. A very quick Google reveals this:

But this dude turned up to crime scenes and things...

I also found this, admittedly Daily Fail, but still:

I would have paid money to see him try and bully his way past an unmarked police car hehe
I once had billy boy racer on the m/way turn on his blue lights and try to force his way past me. My blue lights were better than his.

About 20 years ago I was stuck in traffic on the M6 when an ambulance tried to muscle its way through on blues and twos. Cars shuffled out of its way as best they could to allow it unimpeded progress between lanes two and three until two marked police cars raced up the hard shoulder, when the ambulance fell silent and meekly joined the queue in lane two just to my left.

Perhaps the ambulance's call was cancelled?

Perhaps, just a coincidence the police cars passed at the same instant I suppose.

Many companies are guilty of this mitty behaviour, nothing worse than some ponced up throbber enjoying wielding non existent power. For some reason they seem to think that because their 10 year old ex dog van has some battenburg down the side they can drive like they're on the Cannonball run.
Unfortunately there seem to be more and more of them since Mrs May's slashing of the Police budet which has lead to nonsense like below.
As for the Motorola car, I know nothing, but it gave me the chance to have a rant! biggrin

This belter was done on traffic cops a few years ago, but he was impersonating a paramedic rather than Police. But still, turning on your fake blue lights to avoid being pulled over always works right....

You weren't in an unmarked ARV were you? It always seemed to be the ARVs that had that kind of gift, I guess because of the X5's and 5 series they waft around in that attract tailgaters and mitty wannabes!

the law should be clear, any resemblance should equal conviction, the lines are so blurry, so many cars trying to look like the police nowadays.
