What caused this damage?

That looks like exactly the same damage as on my daughters Fiat 500

I caused it frown

I used a small trolley jack to remove the front wheel

I placed it on the arrow on the sill thinking it was the jacking point

obviously I now know they are made of paper !!

Jaguar put that little arrowhead on the door sills to indicate the location of the jacking points. Just like the Fiat, it implies that the sill itself is the reinforced area. It isn't as I found to my embarrassment on my X-Type. Luckily it is a plastic sill so no permanent damage was done.
