Not rock bottom, its still mostly ok I think. Long as you pay good attention you can avoid getting close to any of the numpty people.

I did have a cracker the other day, some one over took me, gradually in lane 2 (probably a MLMer, I saw him in my mirrors way back just cruising along in lane 2).

Anyway he kinda, sorta, doesn't completely clear me, decides he suddenly has a working brain and moves into L1 with me right in his path! Quick stab of the throttle and a swerve and crash averted.

I see much more crummy driving on town roads though. One of the best was the other day. Waiting in a line of cars approaching a roundabout. You know how it is, single carriage way, queue of people waiting mostly to turn left. Few turning right. Guy behind in a Mitsubishi thing suddenly pulls out and goes racing down the wrong side of the road. Now we were quite far back from the roundabout, but I guess if you're desperate then a bit of a loony long lunge to get the right hand turning split up ahead before oncoming traffic hits you might just be ok...well, worth a quiet tut and a shake of the head.

Well. I presumed he was going for the right hand filter but no. He stops somewhere down the line of cars, about half way between me and the roundabout and pushes back into the queue! Ok, he might have bottled his oncoming traffic run, but still wanted to go right. Nope, got to the front of the queue and popped his left indicator on. He then got onto the roundabout and decided he did actually want to go right after all so changed his indicator and cut across traffic into the right lane!!!

That is a level of thought I just cannot reconcile.

If you're not a motorway regular, and it seems like you're not, driving standards can seem poor but they are the safest roads in the UK. The examples you saw aren't peculiar to the M25. Adapt and survive, you'll soon get used to it.
Trust me, the UK motorways, although clogged with heavy traffic and relatively slow drivers, are much safer than anywhere else. You want to feel "Alive"? Try driving on a motorway in eastern Europe or the 101/405 through Los Angeles!
Trust me, I know. 40 years of driving in a variety of European countries and occasionally the USA have been educational.
