Grannies in baddass cars
Discussion
I know a couple in their mid 60s whose daily driver is a modified f-150 raptor. Their weekend toy is an ls powered Nissan patrol FIA rally car in which they'll be contesting their 10th Abu Dhabi desert challenge next week - 2000km of full on rally raid in which they've placed top 20 in the past. I don't think retirement is something they would enter into lightly!

I was in Melksham today and found myself behind a beautiful showroom condition 89 Ford Escort RS Turbo in that metallic grey I always thought suited it best. It was entirely bog standard and a car that brought a nostalgic lump to my throat. When we hit a stretch of dual carriageway I pulled past for a proper look ( which wasn't hard, it was doing about 15mph). Only to see the driver. A little old lady in her early eighties in full Wurthers spec knitwear and hearing aids. If this is what the grannies in Melksham are nipping to the Post Office in...... just WTF are the boy racers bringing to the party ?
I know the lady you mean, she's had it from new. It was a present from her husband and she used to do hill climbs. The local Ford dealer has tried to buy it off her as well. sleepera6 said:
Respect! We have an inspector on site who works for one of our customers, she's 68, hardly ancient, she drives a new Range Rover Sport SVR that is metallic red - it looks lovely, considering her background you'd think that she would have some mechanical sympathy for a cold engine - nope!
We used to have a customer who came in work, old chap in his late 70's, lovely old guy, would talk all day!
Had 1 leg too, the other was a prosthetic.
Drove a Diablo VT, an original pop up headlight model with heavy clutch.
Would tell us a story of when he took his Ferrari 550M round Oulton Park and his leg fell off on 1 of the last corners so he couldn't brake

Reminds me of last summer, was leaving Bournemouth early on a Friday afternoon to go down to Cornwall for the weekend. Sun was shining, shades on, roof was down and in a good mood when I ended up being pretty much tailgated by a LHD Mustang convertible through town.
It then followed me when we hit the dual carriage way and I put my foot down, I backed off at just over 90 and the Mustang shot past with a wave from a women in her 70's - made my weekend and couldn't stop laughing.

PS She is now 75
I think my Grandmother qualifies here.
In 1977 she was given this by my Grandfather. She was 47.
She ran it for a number of years before needing something more 'practical' and, keeping the 911 for weekends and the occasional trip into the town centre of St Andrews, she bought a C-plate 205 GTi 1.6 in light grey/silver. She would have been 55 at that time.
That was then replaced by an H-plate 205 GTi 1.9 in dark grey. She was 60.
Then in 1999 she wanted something with 4wd and a little overtaking power for her regular trips up to our house in Grantown Upon Spey. Cue the arrival of this when she was 69 years old. This pic is actually the day I collected it from her and it began its second life as my track car in 2006 so she was still running this at 75. Only a few years prior to this she also gave up the 911 to me as it wasn't getting the use it deserved. She truly has petrol in her veins.
She currently has an Audi A3 sportback quattro.
