In what sense?
Use as a daily. Simple as. Not saying a wouldn't have a 570s, but it's not the same kind of car. Much like an R8, you don't see them used as dailies, where you do 911s
I'm not so sure it's THAT big of a deal breaker for many....you see plenty of Caymans used as daily drivers, same with Boxsters... and, to be honest, where I live I actually see just as many R8's as 911s (Hampshire), or no real significant difference.

Does anyone really like the 911 anymore?

It was great when it was a foot+ shorter and much more upright, but now it looks so bland..

I like the little turbo 6 in the carrera - I wish they'd just put it in a really simple, back to basics 911. Less weight, less electronics, less civilised inside. As it is, what's the point in a car so over-tyred and grippy on the road? Really, what's the point?

Not sure if you're being serious or not? You really can't see the appeal in a sports car that's refined enough to be used every day but is still fun when you want it to be?

I wouldn't say it's actually about practicality. More about image. 911 just has that appeal that's similar to a Range Rover where it's classless (despite costing north of 100k these days!). It's one of the few cars most women wouldn't mutter 'tw***' under the breath about....whereas an R8 or a McLaren....

Round these 'ere parts they still haven't shaken their red braces image. Far from being classless I'm afraid, you still won't get let out of a side road like its contemporaries might do.

I really don't think that's the case with the R8/911....PERHAPS McLaren or Lambo....but the 911 can come across as a bit tw*tish to some....

If they work in 8 year cycles, can we expect the next 911 to be launched in the autumn of 2019 with first deliveries in 2020? We're only really getting to grips with the 991 gen 2 now!

Looks more and more bloated each generation. 991 lost the roofline. A 964 C2 its a million miles away and much nicer looking.

Sure it has hundreds more horsepower and thinner low pro tyres than ever but seriously have you seen the state of the roads lately?

Have to disagree, the most 'tw**ish' car there is, its the 'white Audi driver done good' car of choice, its dull, predictable and unimaginative, it's the golf GTi of Sports cars.

It says what it does and does it well but with too clinical precision for me.

I have seen a few McLaren's being used as dailys, would pick one over a 911 anyway.

Range Rovers are also the chav chariot of choice these days (see white / blacked out RRS).

I think we all need to stop referring to any model post 997 as a 911. These are simply no longer sports cars. The evolution is for more power, more weight, more size, more grip and less feedback. It's a transformation into a GT, no longer an evolution of a great sports car.
You are so right, post 997 is really a different world.

It's interesting how quickly the 'wraparound' / single rear brake light has gone from being a fresh new design feature to pretty dull.

I don't know why people moan about the 911 getting bigger and faster. Just look, for example, at Mini, Golf, 3-Series and Range Rover......

If the new 911 isn't for you just go and buy a Cayman. It'll blow older 911s into the weeds.

Exactly. And for the better if I'm honest. The 997s feel fairly crude by comparison, and whilst the engine in the GT3 is incredible, the gearchange is horrendous and the handling balance is 'interesting'.

The irony with your last sentence is that it appears to suggest that the lower profile tyres etc mean that it'll ride horribly and be hard to use compared to older generations because of the poor state of roads....yet this simply is not the case! The newer ones ride every bit as well, and put their power down better than the old cars too, even on rougher roads rofl

It may be just my eyes but in the full frontal shot the new car looks more like a coke bottle type 997 turbo body line than the 991. The front wheel arch looks more pronounced. This is a good thing.

Also happier about the rear aero being extended, the current solution on the 991 looks like a 10 year old designed it.

The other bigger question (for me at least) is what they are going to do with the sunroof design.

Am I the only one who thought they might finally be putting the engine in the middle - like their RSR?

It will be better than the last, it will be brilliant, the press with flower it with awards, it'll have great residuals, it'll be practical, fast, sensible, and reliable.

Yet, I still don't want one. There is just something about the 911 that doesn't wet my ducks. At the lower end of the spectrum (and there are just too many 911 derivatives IMHO) I'd take a Jag F Type for the noise and looks, at the 'Turbo S' end, the 570s is just more 'special'.
