There seemed to be less traffic than normal on Sunday afternoon, very quiet.

Saturday was a nightmare though.

M4 opened earlier than planned, Sunday instead of Monday

Yes it was so strange, like a ghost town!

Calcot shops at J12 were definitely quieter!

I even managed to get out of the Sainsburys petrol station quickly.

This closure will be happening again unfortunately. 5th-8th of May is the next date and I don't believe that's the end of it.

bds!!!!!

The next few years will be awful in Newbury/Reading area with the smart motorway construction.
I'm not entirely sure it will help in the long term either but time will tell - I'll be in my 30s by the time it's finished, that is scary!

If this closure goes ahead on the 5th-8th it may cause issues for people getting to Goodwood supercar Sunday breakfast club on the 7th.

A34 - > M3 as an alternate route, or you can take a272 biggrin i remember the drive to the PHSS at Goodwood, with some guys from here, that was amazing. Have a Ferrari pushing me along was quite a sight.

Quite surreal on Saturday. I back onto the A4 off Falmouth Way and no bikes wanging along, no chavs screaming their fiestas, no lorries squealing brakes, almost silent. As for getting anywhere, the Westfield stayed in the garage and I did brownie points day in the house. Current wife went to Reading 'shopping' , I said dont be daft. Apparently at 8:30 am it was clear, but 11 am homeward, was nearly 1 1/2 hrs of back roads.

This was gutting for me as I pick my daughter up from Gloucestershire every other weekend and on the weekend it's shut, it looks like a no go! Gutting.

Depending on destination, M40 and A40 seem obvious alternatives....confused
