For those like me who remember the radio playing those great singles from this great album in the summer of 79, Breakfast In America was released 38 years ago today. Halcyon days indeed.

One of my (many) regrets is not getting to see Supertramp live

Crime of the Century is a big favourite of mine

I've never seen them live but wish I had.
Rudy is a great cut!

Nah. You're as old as you feel. Not a truer statement. Just don't look in the mirror.

Seems like yesterday to me. Still got the original album (one of many 60s/70s albums that hasn't been sold on ebay or to collectors, but will be, just to grab the money while they still make the money!)

Always amazed today at anyone who hears this album 'new' and seeing the cover thinks it's an American group.
Understandably, I suppose. Although drummer Benberg does hail from California. Plus too the waitress depicted on cover is American actress Kate Murtagh who must be heading for a 100 now.

The best thing about the cover for us of a certain age in this area is Hodgson reading our local rag the Oxford Mail, when it was broadsheet size, not tabloid as it is now, which had a front page about a shooting (in Oxford then!).

I just grabbed my copy of the album to remind me of the other papers headlines (ones you can decipher) - Glasgow Herald has 'Callaghan slams the brakes on spending' while the Manchester Evening News front headline was about a boy, 15, dies in train horror.
Bet if that LP was launched now the professionally offended would probably want it banned!

Then later there was of course the 9/11 conspiracy theory because of the letters UP in SUPERTRAMP being above the pile of card boxes representing the twin towers - view it in a mirror and UP reads 9 11 - which it does - but meant much more to the conspiracists!

I didn't realise the waitress was an actress and a quick google reveals you were right about her age, born in 1920. Time waits for no one unfortunately.

Bristol Colston Hall 1975(?) supported by Chris de Burgh (and Gallagher & Lyle according to t'internet, although not my memory).
Roger Hodgson had a light up jacket which was fun at the time smile

Thank you
That reminds me of the Stones It's only Rock N roll album and I will stick that on now its a truly great track
Going back to the OP its probably the only album I listened to by them and the Logical Song has some of the best vocal bits of any record the bit where its " I know its sounds absurd" etc

It was one of them albums when it came out all the planets aligned, just left school and full of optimism, sports moped on the road, hot summer and cuts from BIA playing on the radio. Halcyon days

Literally 30 seconds after reading this, I've downloaded it from Spotify! Will play on holiday, used to like the album back in the day.

My favourite album back in the day was 'Paris'. Where I lived there were no proper record shops so it was the only one I could get.

'Fool's Overture' is a sublime masterpiece. And quite apt for these Brexit days.

I wasn't even born in 1979 but it produced two of my favourite albums, Breakfast in America and Unknown Pleasures, Rodger Hodgson is touring this year I think.
