Nice Alfa - how are car manufacturers unable to make an interior as stunning as that???

If this was Cobalt Blue metallic with biscuit leather I’d be sorely tempted at £18k.

It’s long enough ago I sold my last one that the rise in prices seems tolerable.

My RyanAir flight has been delayed, so that means I get time to search for alternate routes home. This is a fine way to use RyanAir-type colours for a drive home to the UK instead, don’t you?

If you’re going to the bother of stroking an M50 and fitting ITBs etc, why not just drop an S50 in there for another 50+ BHP?
They're probably pretty rare and expensive these days, aren't they? Gone are the glory days of ratty £3k E36 M3s...
Totally.

Thats’s why you see so many race E36s run with E46 lumps instead. The S50 in all its guises is a £10k lump now.

That is glorious. Shame about the headlamps and leaper but it's nothing that couldn't be sorted out

Anyone watch M539 Restorations on YT?

He’s bought a Quattroporte GTS… with 300,000km… and the check engine light is on laugh

My sentiments precisely.

Oval headlights, lose the fogs & leaper & it’s a clean & classy car.

V10, manual, Suzuka Grey.
That would do nicely.
Not silly price either.

It’s a 20123 and has a very early version of the turbocharged Ferrari V8, but with a cross plane crank and wet sump. 530bhp. Sounds pretty epic

He drops the engine in the 2nd episode to access the timing chains and change part of the vanos system. The engine with the box and everything attached to the subframe is huge! Quite a task for 1 guy in his garage.

It does look a lot of car for the money these days but when I drove my mates at Oulton the gearbox was a real disappointment. Fine for the road but if you tried to change as fast as a 911 it used to baulk, a lot like the rest of the car when pushed.

I've only been a passenger in a V8 but I get the feeling it might just be the sweeter car.

I've never driven one on track so can't comment, but i thought the manual in these was a really nice box.
I hear a lot saying they v8 is the one to have, but I just can't see it. The v10 is bloody marvellous.

They appear excellent value, probably my go-to supercar if I won a small lottery jackpot.

Aren’t those V8’s a bit prone to oil leaks?

Valve stem oil seals and occasional water pipe through the valley pan.

My 550i hss been fine. In fact quite solid really. Not perfect but fine. Been consuming oil - valve stem oil seals - whole time I've had it. I added some snake oil in the form of seal repair additives about 2 years ago. Don't know if it helped but definitely didn't make anything worse. Also weeping a bit from the vacuum pump. Doesn't leave any drops underneath although I only park on public roads, no fancy paved driveways here so I'm not really bothered if it does.

I chose the big v8 when I bought it 9 years ago because it wasn't diesel so no emission control drama or turbo problems associated with modern oil burners. And really its been good to me. I've had a bit of an annoying misfire recently and given up on the DIY route so it's going to see a professional this week. Fingers crossed.

Plus it's genuinely quick. Will hit 60 in just under 6 seconds even now after 19 years, 120000 miles and with an old school ZF 6 speed slusher. 25 mpg is optimistic but 20 is maybe realistic.

Boot can swallow 4 full sized wheels and tyres - if not too wide - without even folding seats down.

Mine was a BMW press car. Got a copy of the BMW magazine it featured in.

Lovely. Part of me would love to run it as a daily, but I think I'll stick to the one V8 BMW.
