Is that the one that has been floating around for ages?
I think it's been banded around between more dealers than I've had hit dinners
Didn't it have all the shipping protection on it, or was that a different one. I've got pics of it from ages ago (8 years?) somewhere.

Just a ‘normal’ 964 Turbo in Mint or Midnight would suffice

I know I could be flamed for having just bought one but any talk of Porsche exotica and I can't help thinking about these. There's a great thread in the P section about old 993 RS' and how folk used to race them and now they're worth hundreds of thousands etc. a really great read!

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

And you look at 996 GT3s, not just the RS' but an ordinary Clubsport can be bought for a little as £65-70k with the best of the best like the above! To me, that's no more expensive than the cost fifteen years ago-I was dithering on a couple at £32k in circa 2008 when I got my M3csl, put that in an inflation calculator and it spits out £50k-not a huge amount of difference in real terms.

These cars were, for people like me, the daddy. When I went to the ring in the 00s all the cool kids had them, there time will come when it comes to £££ if that's your thing. And as long as you don't do anything silly you can still use them and abuse them and get most parts reasonably cheap.

Good tyre and brake supplies (I've Cup 2s coming this week), relatively cheap panels, they've been tracked for 20+ years so all the foibles are worked out and solved, quick enough for a peddler like myself, great fun and a good community. There's even a "no nannies conference" set up for them now with a two day ring trip in September.

The last cars that Porsche made that were as close to a Cup car as possible? Arguably the 997 but that had the sequential gearbox but none of that matters, the 997s aren't that much more expensive if you prefer the headlamps!

I think I have to agree with you there Prost, last of the properly ‘pure’ GT3 lineage maybe?

I remember driving along the A12 in my Exige many years ago, catching a silver 996 GT3 Clubsport with ‘cage etc. driving it was a gorgeous young brunette. I fell in love twice that day biggrin

Maybe Loon, arguably the 981 GT4 was pretty close to it's Clubsport race car-I suppose with Porsche there's always a "last of the..." you can hang on your car!

But if you fancy a 911 and you value one that's as close as dammit to the real race cars these have to be it. Never to be repeated again unfortunately.

I think it very much depends on how and where you use them.

Auction waffle: "Other notable features include a passenger seat; centre locks;" - oh right, so why's the car on 5 stud wheels then...?

Yes.

And which roads. And when.

Talking 911;

Oldie, but a goodie.

Who needs a GT3 when you can have a slidy ol’ SC

Nah, the 981 GT4 race car is a different beast from the road car.

The purest relationship between road/race car from the watercooled Porsche era is indeed the 996. So many things are the same it’s not even funny. You can literally build a 996 Cup car from a road car in your garage.

You cannot do this with the 997 - there you can tell the Cup car is evolving away from the road car in pretty much every aspect. The 991 platform and the 992 are yet on a different level.

I am also with you that the time of the 996 will come - for the money nothing comes even remotely close… And I will have a 996RS over a 993RS any day of the week…

Exterior colour is lovely. Price it went for seems somewhat punchy
