It’s bizarre how many people do this! Although I’ll probably be replacing the E43 with a SQ7. (As I want more space)
Heh. I used to frequent this thread, and replaced my CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake with an SQ7 and rightly exiled myself.

And I am off to Selva Val Gardena this morning. With a roofbox.

How the mighty have fallen. frown
I think "mighty" is somewhat pushing it, if that helps you feel better biggrin

FWIW I love a roofbox on my S6 - doesn't make a noticeable difference to performance or a meaningful difference to fuel "economy" and having a car that isn't utterly rammed full (even if beautifully-packed) is nice.

Oooh - Selva Val Gardena. Unfortunately it’s totally rubbish there for everything as you know, and almost entirely Brit free. Useless for skiing in the winter, even worse for cycling/climbing etc in the summer. Terrible hotels, hateful locals, shocking food. So we don’t mention it here, @HarryF. Or to friends. In fact we don’t ever let on, to anyone anywhere. Capiche?

Sorry for thread diversion. As you were…

Very nice. Have you just sold an F31 B3? Name looks familiar for one that was on the Alpina site.
Which Alpina site is this? I've just sold my D3 Touring and want a B3 so I'm scouring all the usual sites but not sure I know this. Nothing on Alpina Register unless I'm missing? Cheers

I did advertise my B3 on the Alpina register forum.

After a 12 month hiatus driving an FL5 Type R I’m now back in my happy place. For daily driving, nothing beats a fast estate mated to a 6+ cylinder engine. Fact.

Even the little person approves.

Off topic; but did you have a thread a couple of years ago arranging a car swap with someone for a ski trip or something? Caught my eye at the time with a level of trust I think you’d need that I probably don’t possess. Did it all go well if it was you / it happened?!

C43 with factory Performance Exhaust.
Only had it a few weeks. Loving it and so good to be back into a small estate with some go! 385bhp.

V nice! Unusual for a contemporary M-B not to feature ludicrous pumped-up body “styling” as preferred by S Manc drug dealers. Yours looks far from that; nicely understated.
Thanks, appreciate the thoughts! Yep, a touch Q. Doesn’t look too much.
Sounds epic though!
V nice, I went from a saloon c43 to an estate. Can’t really fault them, I tried the c63 but it felt like the engine was a bit too much, the c43 just feels right. In sport it is very entertaining, sport+ is a bit erratic I find.

Nicely! These look pretty damn good for an all round package.

The B8 above is a lovely colour compared to primer grey, and the smooth lines of that design haven’t been bettered.

Used my RS4 to transport my EV yesterday. No doubt my son prefers being on the e-bike - when the weather allows it’s our primary mode of transport.

…and then the debate over what qualifies as a fast estate will be gone all over again laugh

Swapped one fast estate for another. Sold my F31 340i for this G21 M340i. Bit of a whim purchase, was only toying with it and noticed a dealer half a mile off my route home from a client up the other end of the country had this one in stock that was very nicely optioned and crucially had the M performance seats which are a rare option. It's one of the last pre facelift cars (pre-LCI in BMWspeak) so has the mild hybrid that does torque fill between gears but has the earlier (IMO) nicer dash.

Interesting comparison to the older car. A bit quicker in a straight line but not that much once rolling but off the line it's loads better thanks to the 4wd and the grip it finds off roundabouts etc at the moment on greasy roads compared to my old car which was RWD is quite something considering it's on summer tyres and the old car was running on Michelin Cross climates. Am toying with a gentle remap for sts and giggles and have already bought a second set of wheels to use as winters.

Ive been thinking about making the same change but straight line speed is not lacking in the F31 imo.

Are there any other factors, besides the grip you mentioned, that justify the leap?

Sort of. It's like it's a few % "better" in all regards but no element is a massive leap. It's a good deal quieter if you're just cruising around but the exhaust sounds a bit louder than my old one did when you're on it (dunno if it's partly artificial). My F31 had passive dampers and I put Eibachs on it to get rid of the slight "float" they have on initial turn in. The adaptive dampers on the G21 make a difference in tightening it up when on it and being more relaxed when driving normally. It also feels a bit posher inside in terms of fit and materials although I never had any complaints with the F31.

Am I happy I made the change? Definitely. Did I need to for what more it gives me? Definitely not.

They're hard to beat. I gave them serious consideration when I bought my RS6 but the V8 pulled me back in.

C63s eat tyres and the M3 Touring rides like a go kart. The RS4 is still the one to buy if you want to actually use the car imo.

I love my C43. Had it 3 years now. It's been my only car and I've covered 30k miles and used it for everything including 3 Euro trips. Thinking of changing it for a C63 estate now as its been relegated to a 2nd car.
