Citroen Ami

The same doors are used each side and the same bumpers front and back
Saves how much?

Saves a few million in tooling development cost. Not that much per sold car (less than €10/car, I'd say), but that's how thin the margins are at the bottom of the market.

I cannot recall ever seeing a Vauxhall Arena. It was the first of the rebadged Renault Trafics sold by GM.

We had a couple as parts vans when I worked at a Vauxhall dealer for my first full time job. I don't think we sold many of them, we sold far more Midi vans compared to Arena's

There has been a Suzuki Swift 4x4 or 4WD from 1990 till now, in all generations.
It is popular in snowy and mountain regions, similar to Panda 4x4, and everywhere else you might need a small 4x4 car.
I knew about the 90s ones, but didn’t realise they were still making them as 4x4. I thought it was Panda or nothing for small 4x4s.
I think the Swift uses a lowered SUV platform. Hence why it..

a)looks a bit like a SUV
b)has the option of 4x4

Did they sell the 90s Swift 4wd in the UK? You could definitely get one rebadged as a Subaru Justy as I had one as a loaner when my Impreza went in for a service.

My parents have a 14 plate swift 4x4. It seems to be a decent bit of kit. Pretty capable in bad weather on all season tyres too. They missed the mark slightly not doing a hot version as the thing is a hoot to drive.

They did, my favourite was the 1.6 4x4 saloon, reminded me of a mini Mitsubishi lancer, I preferred the saloon to the 3dr GTi

I used to work with a guy with one.

He commuted from the far side of Loch Goil, up round the rest and be thankful, and down into Glasgow, every day.

With his 4WD and winter tyres, he made it in to work when people that stayed 5 miles from the office were taking a snow day.

On a topic about Japanese track cars a VEMAC was mentioned.

A Japanese Lotus Elise with Honda power in the form of the B18c or later K20 engines.
Cool thread. I LOVE this.

Are those flip up windows a la 2CV?

ETA: seems they are. Citroen apparently has a "huge desire" to bring it to the UK.

As part of the "final assessments" ahead of offering it for sale, Citroën will invite media and consumers to test and evaluate the Ami in its current guise. Crucially, [Citroen bod] admits, if the Ami would "in all likelihood" be left-hand drive if it came here.

"That sounds like a big deal but, of course, due to the size of the car, the difference between having the steering wheel on the left or the right is probably only seven or eight inches - not a huge disadvantage".
So quite a small cockpit, then?

ah, the Munga. The Dutch army had these (weren't a success though). They were sold as DKW rather than Auto Union though, and I hadn't seen one with the four-ring emblem before.
Engine was a 1.0 l 3-cylinder 2-stroke...

I’m sure a lot of us have heard of Mitsuoka, they made micras look like a classic jag. Today I learnt they’ve got their hands on the latest Rav 4. It’s certainly interesting.

I kind of like that. It reminds me of some mock-ups I saw of modern cars if they had been created in the past. Someone made a 70s styled Porsche Cayenne that was similar to that.
