Are they competing with anyone. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I was under the impression they would only make as many as they had customers wanting to buy one.
That is the case. And if I had a spare 60 k for another toy I'd be on the list like a shot , as the Vertige epitomises the sort of small sports racer I perved over in my youth . The only thing that would make me want one even more would be a high revving baby V6 - so I could realise my Dino 206S Targa Florio fantasy .

Whereas I, as a heretic, would want DCT and a turbo... Not for more power, for the different way it's delivered.

I wonder if the 2.0 V6 from the MX3 would fit, or even a 2.5 M96?

I love these. The red looks especially good. If it is the Mazda red, then it is more a ruby colour and I have spotted it on the MX5 and thought it look fabulous. Renault use a similar tone that looks stunning.

It is great what these guys are doing.

It's a Vallelunga for the 2020's. Backbone chassis, small block Ford, mid mounted and very much a 904/ Vallelunga look to it, the rear being a but more resolved than the De Tomaso.

I had been toying with going to look at one. At £60k, they are knocking on the door of an Evora 410 or Emira amongst others though. I suppose it's more aimed at the A110, being smaller and more delicate.

I'm surprised that all the people who said they'd buy an A110 if it had a manual and a non-turbo engine haven't ordered one.

Vertige at Goodwood Members Meet (taken by a mate).

Think it's Mazda Soul Red? Suits it!
It’s Rosso Competizione that Alfa used for the 8c. Its a lovely colour and looks great int the flesh.

I wonder how it rides, relatively. A big attraction of the Alpine for me is the ride quality on UK roads.

It has a very rigid steel monocoque, not a backbone chassis.

They'd look nice on it. I was thinking something like Countach wheels, the ones with the five big holes.

The prototype I drove had a very good ride - somewhere between an A110 and the S. I considered it as an Alpine replacement - but concluded it wasn't. Not driven the production model, but the refinement was a long way off on the prototype. I know substantial improvements have been made in that area, but I doubt it will get close to A110 levels of refinement or fit and finish. Other things put me off considering a daily driver - only one year warranty, no longer rustproof warranty (steel chassis not galvanised).

As a weekend fun car (great chassis) with a bit more practicality than an Elise it will doubtless make sense to at least buyers of the 25 cars Robin intends to produce each year. Well worth a drive if that is the sort of thing you are looking for.

I've looked at those Image lambo wheels a few times.

Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion unless you've a wide wheel and decent offset, they look a bit pants.

No it essentially does use a backbone chassis - it certainly couldn't be described as a monocoque. It has a central backbone and outriggers in the sills. It uses welded steel subframes front and rear. It certainly has a very (arguably too) stiff chassis - 47000nm/degree if I remember rightly - 20000 would be plenty. They could doubtless save a bit of weight by using less substantial chassis members.

I do hope it succeeds, it's a unique vehicle with qualities that make it a refreshing alternative.

The chassis tub, in fact, is quite reminiscent of the old GTM kit car (albeit with deeper-section backbone and cill elements).

Personally, I have my doubts that it's as stiff as they are claiming - I'd want to see the test results for myself (and I've seen cases where the Engineers have over-constrained the FEA model, resulting in false figures) - because if it is, it's either a very remarkable design or, as bcr5784 suggests, it's grossly over-engineered. Though it will undoubtedly be plenty stiff enough to do the job whatever the case.

I did quiz Robin on this. He assured me the stiffness was measured at the suspension pick up points - I had (still have) my doubts too. The basic box sections are very substantial so the tub (if we call it that) just might be that stiff. The Alfa 4c quoted a similar figure - but that was the tub alone - at the pickup points it's only 15000nm/degree. (Alpine were rather keen to tell me that the A110 was much stiffer at 22000nm/degree)

hm, simple but those could suit them as well, this color I guess could fit also nicely under that red Vertige example.

sadly I can't fotoshop, I only can cut pictures or paste another part of another picture badly on it hehe

but I guess some can fotoshop such wheels in the picture to get a bit of the idea.

She was parked behind me and I had a wander around when I got back to the car. Actually the only car in the fields I bothered looking at this yr.
It’s much prettier in the flesh than in pics and looks a decently put together interior. The colour combo is very close to my old 4C.
Was a nicely edited pic though wink

Unhelpful comment alert…. The wells doesn’t look good at all in my eyes, it looks like some odd generic kit car. I’m glad there’s still low volume manufacturing going on but they’ve missed a trick and up against tough competition, if you’re after a sporty little car £60k puts you in the boxster and cayman crosshairs. You’d have to be half mad.

How much heavier is a Cayman?

You'd have to be three quarters mad to buy such a lardy tub if what you want is a driver's sports car.

(this post is tongue in cheek)
