I think it was Quentin Willson in Classic Cars last year saying these were strangely undervalued in the Ford world.

Clearly these guys responded with 'hold my beer'!

As a child of the 80s, I can't help but hold a soft spot for them. What with Dempsey & Makepeace and the fact that I had a very nice metallic blue Matchbox one. But I bet they're awful!

I’m old enough to have enjoyed the 80’s. But (IMO) these didn’t look great then and time has not been kind.

I can admit to owning a 1985 B Reg 1.6i Escort Convertible, before they rebadged it as an XR3i...
It was in silver with the black roof and the 4 hole telephone dial alloys...

Those were the days back in the late 80s... can't help but remembering how bad the scuttle shake was.... it was replaced by an F Reg Nova GTE, which was an infinitely better car although that was fully in white with white wheel trims to match....

Not too sure I'd want to run around in a car with tyres that are 30 years old or so...

Advert says :

“Admittedly, there are marks and blemishes around the bodywork, but we wanted to leave the car as we found it, offering the new owner the ability to decide how to progress with it”.

So it’s fked. They can’t be arsed prepping it, and it’s more than likely a dog. Just hoping some mug has a bit of spare money knocking about.

Crack on.
I must remember that when next selling a car. Instead of spending a few days machine polishing and waxing it I’ll “leave the car as I found it”. Hilarious! Who would have thought we’d be talking about patina on a bloody Ford Escort!

The definition of a hairdressers car with rubbish performance, scuttle shake for days and all-around crap from Ford.

It was utter sh¡t back in the 80s and it's even more utterly sh¡t now.

For the love of God and all things holy, absolutely avoid it like the plague but not before burning it with fire.

Cars like this make me glad we live in the 21st century as things have improved and come so far along from this atrocity.

Can’t work out if you like it or not? Chill out buddy before you have a seizure, it’s only a car.

When I said I wanted a 35 year old escort I didn’t mean a Ford Escort!

...or put another way, a fun car that would no doubt raise a smile and a conversation when out and about.

Cars like this make me sad that we live in the 21st century as they show how joyless and expensive 'normal' cars have become.

Can’t ever remember my Auntie Glynis owning one but I never paid much attention to Dempsey & Makepeace so presume a young Glynis Barber drive one in that?

Takes me back, my mate John had one of these, exactly the same, he was dating a girl named Tracy at the time so we had a windscreen sticker made up for them saying Tracy - Tracy, needless to say he was not amused!

Low spec Escorts of this vintage were not bad I always felt compared with the opposition, OK the Astra wasn't bad but a poverty spec Golf was utterly horrid, probably the most miserable and dull purchase possible! (Was the best of the era the 323?)

But as the spec levels improved the Escort seemed to get worse where the Golf by the time you got to a GTI was a really lovely thing it seemed to me.

I love seeing old or long forgotten cars when I'm driving, the Renault 19 16v, Golf GTi mk2, Nissan Prarie. And I'll momentarily think "I wonder what its worth?"

If I drove past this, in that moment, I'd be at the £400 mark.
