Beyond hideous, who would buy this over any of its competitors or indeed anything.

As for M, surely they can only trade on the name for so long before people forget what they are/were about and it becomes just a chintzy trim level.

Just a little automotive Optrex to help soothe my poor eyes...

Thank you for posting this work of art!
My dad had a M635, great cars and so pretty.
BMW have lost the plot with their new cars!
Love that 90’s 7 series too!
Those old models are bound to go up in value.

Not even going to comment on the looks as the real failure is failure for it to be a) quick b) ride even remotely well c) the weight!

Fundamentally, the weight and ride issue clearly are linked to using CLAR and the nonsense hybrid stuff, even on the shared platform like the Urus they managed something semi sensible ride wise and weight. The DBX is an oddity in that respect being on a dedicated platform and even keeps air chambers on the 707.

The XM is frankly, slow. It is not even in the 3 something 0 - 60. The standard dbx is nearly 0.5 second up on this with nearly 100 bhp less! Let alone the dbx 707 which is 1.2 seconds up.

Recombine that with the looks you are going to have to be a very dedicated person or get a substantial discount. Frankly, a lightly used dbx 550 (so non 707) is similar money to a new one of these. Add a bit more in and you can get a 707.

It looks different from anything else. That seems to be the main requirement of the BMW design at the moment. To differentiate above all.

I don’t mind the overall shape but the detailing is very chintzy and crass. Broadly similar to most other SUVs to my eyes. Doesn’t seem to be much space in the back for such an enormous car.

Odd, awkward, fat, chintzy and hideous. i dont like the look of any of BMW's SUV's so i am slightly biased.

I dont know what BMW is thinking and maybe they are 20 years ahead of their time but honestly why the hell are they giving that an M badge.

Well, that’s a bit of a wake up call on a Saturday morning…

I’d be genuinely concerned about parking this - anywhere else than in a covered garage - away from people with eyes… I can’t imagine it would draw much positivity? And that comes from a current M4 owner… (M4 not universally loved - I know - but this, sheesh…?)

The weight, the cost, the size, the gaudy-ness, I am a ‘live and let live’ kind of person - but this does challenge my principles on that.

Oh no - BMW news - on these forums has turned me…!

Near 3 ton, 25mpg, market stall on wheels…

Full order books you say? Uh… ok… am sure you are right.

Massive touch screens and cars that weight close to 3000kg with enormous amounts of power. What could go wrong.

I’m literally wtf at the car industry with this sort of st.

i think you mean 3000kg smile

The car industry has worked out that if you supply less you can charge more and people will buy anything if there is less to choose from.....hence this rubbish !

I'll take a stage 1 X5 50i with 650hp/900Nm every day of the week over this monstrosity (and the new M design on the X5 and other recent M models)

"I am yet to hear anyone say they love it" . What the hell else do you expect looking like this aberration....yet folk will no doubt buy it.

I hope it fails dismally. Get the thing off our roads ASAP.

If most people were to define an M car it would most likely be something along the lines of a car based on motorsport based technology for the road (and track as well now with the popularity of track days) so by extension most ordinary M cars are or should be like this (although some aren't!)

But then to do the first bespoke M car in 50 odd years, which you would think should be all of the motorsport tech above turned up to 10 plus good looks along the lines of a GT3/GT4 that put even an ordinary M car to shame, makes BMWs decision to do this totally baffling. They have truly lost the plot on this.

Jesus Christ. Honestly looks like it's been designed by children.
If my kids had designed this some stern words would be had and they would be made to copy an Alfa 33 stradale a hundred times.

Unfortunately in most BMW models with the 'M' designation the 'M' now stands for marketing.
