Saw the launch email from Cotswolds. They had the red pack one and it sold first day they got it in the showroom, they told me there was a queue of people wanting to buy it.

I remember when people used to slag off Cadillac for being blingy and chintzy yet they suddenly look sober and conservative.

Supermarkets should mark up bigger parking spaces and charge for their use. These are not cars, they're small lorries.

It depends what reference point you're looking at it from. Here in Europe, we've started off with tiny cars and over time we've been building them bigger and bigger because we're bigger than our forebears and also we have lives that mean we need to carry more stuff with us. And we want space, not being squeezed together. And then there are the demands of modern safety standards that necessitate bigger cars.

But if you look at these things by U.S. standards, they aren't particularly big at all. The Americans have always had much longer and wider cars that we have in the UK and there's nothing particularly wrong with that if they have the space for it, which they do. I'd much rather have more space, and I really enjoy driving my old 7-series which is by far the biggest car I've owned. But I also enjoyed driving an American-scale SUV when I was over there. But I wouldn't want one here, only because it would be impossible to park anywhere.

And I wouldn't want the BMW XM, not because of its size, but because it's a hideous monstrosity.

I'm not aware of many SUVs or M Cars with manual boxes these days. I can see 4 external M badges... pretty standard for an M / M-lite, no?
If the sales figures are as bad as mentioned above, maybe BMW will withdraw it. Sadly, they seem to persist with loss leaders.
