Blimey what a bunch of grumpy over opinionated gits ! Boring car bought by boring people etc etc !

Well I like it and if I could afford to buy it I’d be well chuffed despite what you miserable lot think !

For 99% of the time that would be a perfect car - love the wheels too !

But not at all sure about the illuminated badge !

Has the law changed - because lit car logos / emblems are not legal in UK / Europe at least?
As of 2025 they will be legal, and backlit grilles are now legal.

The EU is actually pushing to harmonise legislation across the globe, which would presumably include UK.

I like a Golf GTI, but its all a bit "Meh" which is a shame.

At time of typing the 3 out of 5 star rating seems to agree.

Why cant it look like the ID GTI concept? If it doesnt look as big and bloated as other EVs in the flesh (If it does, reduce size by about 20%), it would look great as an IC car.

Is the Golf the single most boring looking car in the world?

The door badge looks tacky and an impediment to washing, assuming you're not accidentally washing your neighbour's Golf.
It's a very safe incarnation and dull looking.

VW are scared to loose the silhouette aren't they.

Funnily I prefer this to the early MK8, whereas with MK7 I prefer the pre-facelift car.

I understand why VW can't/won't sell me a manual, and I understand also that I'm a sad old dinosaur on the subject, but a "last manual" Golf GTI would suit me very well before I'm legally obliged to stop murdering baby dolphins and get an EV.

That’s my thoughts too. I’m going to be looking for a practical fast-ish car this year which I would like to keep long term (hatch, estate or coupe) and I think a late manual Golf GTi, or even a slightly older R I guess would fit the bill nicely.

I think the ‘golden era’ of clean design and function, where the driver was the decision maker, is history now.

And not just VW - Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche ………. They all look like the product of a committee obsessed with tech.

Well, I think it looks wonderful. A nice, understated, modern conveyance for a not-insane amount of £.

It's "wrong" wheel drive, sure but aside from that its quite nice.

I agree with what seems to be the majority view that the wheels are awful, and as they're such an important component of a car's overall appearance they turn a rather bland but inoffensive car car into an ugly one. The wheels on the Mk5 weren't as bad as these, but most cars look better with spoked wheels.

"... the updated interior, complete with 'optional interior applications in genuine carbon fibre' for the first time ..."

FFS! If it's `genuine carbon fibre' being used for fake reasons then why bother? Might as well just save money and use fake stuff, as none of the dipsticks who specify it would know the difference.

Well I like it. Maybe a bit safe, but a welcome change from the eyesores produced by other manufacturers.

I like the wheels. If they release one with 400ps I'm in. Until then I'll stick with my beloved MK 7. Great GTI and our DSG 5 door PP 230bhp every bit as quick as our manual CS S 300bhp real world smile

Needed a house run around for kids who have just passed their driving tests. In UAE zero issues getting them insured and our insurance co in UK has also covered kids on our GTI in UK but at considerably more cost.

I found the Mk 7 R a bit dull compared to our Mk 7 GTI but on Mk 8 and 8.5 I think I prefer the R. Voted with my feet.
