I've got a mk7.5 performance pack coming this week with absolutely zero regrets. 245bhp, a better quality interior, physical buttons and it still has Carplay/Android Auto.

The 8 was a dud, built to a cost during covid and rushed out with quality control issues still being resolved nearly four years in. I hope the 8.5 is much improved as I'd look at a clubsport in a few years.

It’s better than the 8, I think it looks alright and at least it has some buttons and lit controls inside. 7/7.5 remains the better car and looker though.

Real carbon fibre...on a golf. Each to their own I guess.

I remember when they teased the R400. Since then they've brought nothing out I'd want.

Still the same awful dashboard.

It's good they've re-introduced buttons on the steering wheel, but how about simple dials for the heating controls? If indeed they listen to customers. No one asked for everything to be incorporated into the infotainment system.

DSG only? Oh dear. Not very GTI is it?

Looks un-offensive, however, as nice as the wheels are they look like 'OEM wheels on another car', definitely more Alfa than VW. Why are manufacturers so hung up on diamond cut as well? I never understand them, they haven't perfected the finish and they will look tired in a few years and invariably end up getting sprayed black when they can't be cut any more.

Illuminated badges, to tempt the demographic that would, otherwise, have opted for a Wolseley.

I love my Mk7 GTE and have held off upgrading as I felt the 8 wasn’t sporty looking enough. Aside from the ride height a correctly configured 7 GTE wouldn’t look dissimilar to a GTI but in the newer models I find the R line trim looks sportier…they really should be making more of the increases power. Despite that….combined with the bigger battery I may consider this a bit more seriously.

It all seems like progress but…the illuminated badge. Seems like an unnecessary expense.

Oh my god another boring golf.... so boring I still read the article and felt like I had to comment on just how boring it is.

I think it looks fine, and would make a decent 1 car garage for 99% of the people. Wheels, are they off the Skoda VRS ?

I've owned every generation of Golf GTI (bar the MK6), but I just can't get on with the looks of the MK8. When it first came out I fully suspected that it would be a slow burner, but that I'd eventually warm to it and find them desirable, but it's not happened yet. I feel like every previous generation had its own identity, but this one is just too generic and similar to its competitors. It reminds me of an Astra, which is never a good thing.

Has the law changed - because lit car logos / emblems are not legal in UK / Europe at least?

Doesn’t look so bad in red but why’s it on Alfa Romeo wheels wobble

Don’t start a GTI article with battery waffle. That looks a decent car and I like the wheels. If they’ve given it a dashboard that actually works it’ll be a massive improvement. Any details on suspension, engine, fwd/4wd? No, thought not. The GTI deserves its own press release with some more detailed info.
I’d guess Chinglo LED Emblem Company on Amazon will be a bit peed off the manufacturers are starting to copy them but that’s progress I suppose…

Or, indeed, Skoda wheels from 2019? The vRS has always been the right VAG choice. The Golf is a parts bin special biggrin

GTi wont be 4wd, that's the R's job. Engine has power increase as stated. Defo more details to follow but cant see there being any shockers, its a facelift, obligatory bump in power, interior tech changes and some visual tweaks
