RE: New Aston Martin Vantage gets huge power boost

Dont know why people are surprised by the power hike, this lump was easily and reliable churning out 680hp 7 years ago with just a simple map, massively capable engine, just the dct transmissions werent up to it.
I don't think anyone is surprised that it can make that power, given that it already makes more in other applications, but rather that they have chosen to give it that much. It's a huge jump for what is essentially a mid-cycle facelift, and doesn't leave a lot of headroom for future variants - remember this is just the base model Vantage. It would be the same if Porsche launch the 992.2 and give the base Carrera the same power as the current Turbo. Everything above it then has to get more and more.I know manufacturers have to fit a sensor pack on the front for the safety systems etc.
But why, in this massive expanse of a grille, could they not have integrated it a little better?
It's like they designed the front, then realised the sensor had to go on and just notched the bottom edge around it!

Traction for rwd with the right size sticky rubber is not an issue until 800+ these days anyway, well, not in the dry anyway, in the wet on roads rather than track? there will be selectable maps or infinte traction control knob (like the AMG GTR) to keep people safe and happy.
Still not sold on the front end but this new version is definitely an improvement in my eyes, particularly the interior now they dropped the Alegro steering wheel nonsense. It really is a muscular beast now. I guess there’s zero chance of a manual straight six base model but that would be a good Carrera competitor, not that anybody seems to buy a base model 911 these days.
Love the Minotaur green silver wheel combo.

Hmm I like the muscular arches and interior, rear end was always nice imo but good that they've given it 4 proper pipes. Big jump in power which is probably unnecessary 600bhp would have been more than enough. Not sure about the new lights as it echos the 177 which to my eyes is a bit dated given that car is 15 yrs old now, would much prefer sharper lights (Vanquish S style). The front end of the previous car grew on me and that was better than the attempted facelift a few yrs back....obviously in the flesh could be a diff story so we'll see, hope it sells well for them on paper it looks a brute for sure.

I know I'll be an outlier, but I bloody love it.
Much better than previous model. Especially inside as long as its other not so sporty seats. Sadly it is unlikely there will ever be manual option.CF

Maybe...Evo launch report says they asked Aston to confirm there definitely wasn't a manual prototype version currently being tested somewhere in the world. Shuffling of feet & sideways glances that accompanied the denial made them think they were being fibbed to. But who knows...
How many manual Aston's were made over last few years? 100 or 200 maybe? They do have Graziano box on hand which should take high tq new engine gives out.Last manual Ferrari's were made 10 years ago. Something like MX-5 will be last model where manual remains option. Next iteration will likely be last one. This is sad reality.

This is stunning. I've also played on the configurator and I think it looks much better in all the colours apart from this yellow launch one. Vinnievx7 said:

But if I were managing a brand that has a decent chunk of "Britishness" in it's makeup I'd be making sure the interior shots had the wheel on the correct side. A bit too much Johnny Foreginer and not enough Johnny English.
JLR guilty of the same sin usually.

They also have the temerity to hold their press launches in ghastly locales such as southern France - and all the cars are left-hand drive.
And the majority of the journalist chappies are foreigners - and they actually let them drive our pure-blood 100% British-owned beauties, too.
It’s an outrage!

I remember when the Vantage roadster was launched, if you notice all of the reviewers were given a USA car. This is because they don't have to have the GPF which Aston probably know their customers will remove once they get the car. They also have the temerity to hold their press launches in ghastly locales such as southern France - and all the cars are left-hand drive.
