RE: Subaru Forester STI | Spotted

The drivers side just stopped working, bought a replacement but it was different. Spent a lot of time investigating and seemed like they used 3 different controllers on the FSTI windows. Bought another and it was also incorrect.
Problem stemmed from a local garage who told me they did something and saw sparks. Unfortunately then denied the sparks comment and I then struggled with auto electricians to get it righted. Subaru were no help and the person I use for my servicing doesn't do electrics. Could have had another external switch wired in but wanted to keep it original.
Amazing car though, regret selling. Funny how all the owners say how amazing they are and some in this thread clearly have no idea.
I'll struggle to drive anything that would quite match how weirdly good it felt to me. Weird but in a really good way. I loved mine. I had the same colour as the one featured with the aero wheel spats for nearly 6 years. Don't be scared about the EJ25 engine. Mine was at 125K and still strong as and reliable as I was the first UK owner. It had a cat back exhaust and a conservative map to take it to 310bhp/380lbs torque for the last two years I had it. In the last two years I took it to the Swiss alps, many trips to Wales and a couple of sessions on track at Castle Combe.
It always started on the button, didn't drink any oil and was driven hard when the mood suited. I loved that car and slightly regret selling it as I miss the sound and the way it would monster the bends-I had BC racing coil-overs and a number of suspension mods done for the Alps trip.
They have their flaws but they have immense character and get under your skin. But 17K is insane money for a relatively stock example....

Let's say you sell a car on ebay now for 5k that's it's value, is that car worth 18k in Japan? or it's worth what it sold for in the UK?

You can’t compare trade auction prices in Japan to retail prices in the UK. It’s a bad comparison. At least list cars for sale at dealers in Japan!
Of course you can. I had a car imported last year via BHP imports. Sold to me at just shy of £13k, with an auction price circa £7k.
So yeah, double isn’t far off and that’s with a properly prepped car from a reputable dealer.
Would be interesting to see what they could do a Forester for as a personal import actually.

Shock horror, dealer having big markup compared to auction sales

Love JDM curiosities and noticed this dealer also has what’s known as a SUZUKI HUSTLER J STYLE.
Why don’t we have cars that sound as good as that!?!

And would cost almost exactly the same as the one in the thread title if you personally imported it

Ran one of these for a while. Meth injection, coilovers, whiteline links/braces etc etc. running just under 400bhp. Sounded fantastic with the HKS cat-back.
It was great for family duty and never let us down. But as was previously mentioned engine always had to be worked hard to get the most out of it and felt out of breath quite quickly in the upper range. It wouldn't do more than a couple of laps without over heating even with upgraded intercoolers and radiators (not helped by having the intercooler on top of the hot engine).
Sold it to a close friend and still have rides in it. But is not a car I'd actively pursue to have back in the garage... more initial lust than long term love.

Given that the FSTi is basically a bigger Impreza, minus the ground clearance and low range box of the standard Forester and that the Legacy is also a bigger Impreza; which was the better "bigger Impreza" if you could only have one?
The reason I didn't entertain my temptation on the Forester and went with the Legacy is that I was moving up from a WRX wagon because I needed a bigger car. The Forester boot isn't much bigger, there's just better clearance for bulky items because the hatch doesn't slope like the Impreza. It's also still very much saloon based so there's a lot of intrusive wheel arch and suspension turret going on.The Legacy is designed Estate first, they just add the saloon as an option for mini cab firms
