Interesting. Yes, original codename SE038. However, the only real element directly evolved from the 037 into what became the Delta S4 was the fully tubular space frame. I wouldn't describe the Delta S4 as a true evolution of the 037. It's clearly a Lancia Delta and even used elements from a fiat van believe it or not.
Nope.
It has much more in common with the 037 than any Delta.
Everything evolved from the 037 - engine, chassie, suspension, you name it. Its basically a 037 + 4WD & turbocharger, with a Delta silouette body (good marketing).

There was even early development cars in the form of 4wd 037's.
Go figure!

Abarth SE038 / Delta S4 was the 038.

Thanks for the added value. However(!), thats like saying "in 1982 the 037 was a modern day stratos" (Not my words; extracted from an editorial). So far as I am concerned, they are as they are branded.

I would also add, test mules are often not as they're intended to eventually look like and will potentially use what is already at their disposal thats otherwise become old hat.

I fixed that for you. Unfortunately any independent thinking at Lancia has long since disappeared.
Fair point, but that also means they could use one platform for a Fiat / Alfa / Lancia Coupe, making it a lot more financially viable than if Lancia was independent.
I agree - but I also think the Lancia ship has sailed. Alfa and Lancia were competing entities - even under the Fiat umbrella. FCA and Stellantis have done nothing to prise the Lancia brand out of the rut/grave it currently finds itself in. Alfa is barely hanging on with such a limited model range - despite great initial traction (no pun intended) with the Giulia and Stelvio, both of which are outclassed by much more modern models from other manufacturers. It's all about Fiat and the PSA brands in that relationship - it wouldn't surprise me if the 14 brands that make up Stellantis today get reduced in the next few years, with the main casualties being Lancia and possibly Opel. I would have ruled in Vauxhall too, but Vauxhall sell as many cars in the UK as Opel does throughout Europe.

This is meh.

Not going to agree with all the brown-nosing. I'm sure it's lovingly built and extremely well engineered but aesthetically? The original was never my cup of tea looks wise and this doesn't really make it any better.
I love that anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion is "brown-nosing"!

It's weird, there are a few people in the A110 Zagato thread who are also trying to claim some form of superiority for going against the crowd.

I'm sure it went through a wind tunnel then presumably the designers said "nah, let's pretend we didn't have one available". So refreshingly different to the largely cookie cutter silhouettes of contemporary supercars. The word "thuggish" comes to mind. I love it.

Love it from the front.
Looks like a Lego car from the rear.
From the front 1/4 view it look like the love child of a Mk2 MR2 and an Integrale.

I like it.

If the 037 was based, very loosely, on the Monte Carlo (137 designation) then was the designation for the Delta 138?.

Serious question.
