My EV makes a synthetic external noise under about 15mph to alert pedestrians.

Inside, there's virtually no noise at all. If I'm really giving it the beans then there's a slight bassy whine from the rear of the car that doesn't sound dissimilar to the sound effect used on Star Trek when a ship is about to go to warp.

I quite like it this way. The only thing that took some getting used to was the lack of an audible cue as to how quickly I was going.

EV's should have these and make the sound of a stone stuck in the tyre until the tyre roar is loud enough for a pedestrian to know one is near.
If a pedestrian is too stupid to notice something the size of say, a car, in an environment where they would expect one to be, say, a road, car park, whatever, I'd call that Darwinian selection. My old Lexus LS400 was nigh on silent and I didn't manage to hit anyone, despite actively trying at times...buggers ALWAYS saw me coming... smile

I can't think of a witty retort but what an arrogant response, try being a pedestrian for once!

You see how close one can up behind someone before it is heard. It is a lot closer than you might image giving a pedestrian even less time to react.

I'm arrogant? You make the assumption I've never been a pedestrian? I walk loads; just back from a walk with my dogs in fact, I cycle miles and keep my eyes open. It's kind of a tradition to make visual checks before crossing, I was wholly unaware some simply go on sound alone before stepping out. Now, someone tell me that I am ignoring visually impaired people before I point out the motoring industry's constant quest to reduce NVH over the years... in most non 'sporting' vehicles...but yes, the EV, a vehicle type responsible for the callous deaths of pedestrians to add to its sins of not being able to tow a caravan up a hill in -12 degrees four up for 700 miles without stopping... smile
