The target market I would imagine do care and this would be like getting home and realising the burgers your bought in a hurry are "plant based" and the beers 0 percent, i.e. probably fine but not what you wanted.
I think they would be will be pretty far from OK with 0 percent beers!Saying that, Porsche could (just about) get away with a 4 pot in the Cayman but that was at a much lower price point.
At 911 money... I'm not so sure, unless its for a market that has punitive taxes for cars over y cc's capacity.
Enthusiasts, lost there collective minds at the 4 pot Cayster. I can see why Mercedes UK wasn't keen, its a hard sell.
Reminds me of when Jaguar did a similar thing to the F-Type and introduced a 4-pot option. I think Mercedes are keen to get this engine into various models in hopes it'll catch on. I'm not convinced but I suppose it makes sense; especially when they're persevering with it for the new C63.

Yeah, I have been looking at F Types and go "Hmm, thats nice" then "Bleargh, four cylinder", but have to always caveat with some dont care but something like a F Type more will buy it with a bigger engine, but can sort of see where a 4 cyl works in an E class convertible as a lot more of the prospective owners of that model are likely less concerned about the number of cylinders, and if they are, there is always one with more cyclinders, for now anyway.Krikkit said:
Realistically this will be well over £100k, you'd have to be off your rocker to buy a 4-pot for that money. Shame they don't offer the straight-6 instead
In any country with the tax power depends on the cubic capacity of the engine in cubic centimeters ( sometimes at the rate of 1 tax horse power for every 200 cm3 - I'm looking at you Belgium), you'd be an utter fool to buy the one with the bigger engine.sidesauce said:

Thing is, I'd rather just buy an older sports car in the same category for £30k and suck up the £695 tax and lower MPG.

You could also pick up a pre March 2006 A8 SWB sport quattro with a reliable 450hp W12 that won't need rebuilding - and has variable valve timing-and £395 tax - for a mere £10k, if you can actually find one (only about 60 in the UK - and mine's not for sale!)I mean, I could pick up a DB9 for £20k and shrug off the V12 tick rebuild cost, and still have cash in my pocket vs buying this new AMG GT.

Nobody wanted the C63 with that engine so why would anyone want to pay even more for this.
Because in short order this is pretty much what they will be able to offer. They need to start socialising a 4-cylinder in a performance car for emissions reasons. If it even grabs them an extra 10% sales it’s probably worth doing at this point and as I said long term it will be important unless they want to go fully EV ahead of the tech being ready for this type of car.We will gradually see fewer and fewer big cap engines and so expect to see more of this
That's what I figured.
I get the appeal of something like the Alpine but this is a no from me.
