Sigh... Could these arguments just sod off elsewhere?

I like the look of this, certainly appeals as a fun family car. Price is crazy, performance is insane, weight is too much (not taking handling into account, before you start....). Our roads are already terrible, these aren't helping! Surely there's some middle ground here?

If Solid State batteries can really help bring the weight down and range up, then we're onto a winner. The tech is still young, plenty of time for it to improve. For now, I'll continue to enjoy polluting the air in my petrol car.
The scary thing is I am the middle ground!

I’m on this very thread on page 5 saying this is a brilliant car and praising Hyundai for making it.

You'll find me later saying how it’s essentially the 3rd fastest SUV round the Nurburing at nearly half the price of on RSQ8 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT (only 2 quicker SUVs) which probably makes this the most impressive “affordable” EV this year I’m my books!

Apologies as well if I offended.

If it was the pub we’d all laugh about it but being on the internet everything probably comes across emotionless.

The PH divide at the moment probably doesn’t help me as a neutral either biglaugh

Jeez, the 6 has to be one of the ugliest designs in recent history.

We all like different things but I honestly thought the posts above were sarcastic.

It is particularly unpleasant. Do all EVs have to look hideous?

I love the Ioniq5 looks, I am not at all sure about the Ioniq6. I think the BYD Seal does a similar concept better

No idea why they call it a Seal.

Should have gone for "Build Your Dreams (like hell you do) Big Scary Crazed Lion" instead.

Nor me, but why is a Cayenne named after pepper, a medium sized Ford after a prostitute, or a VW hatchback after a particularly dull sport that involves hitting things with a stick until they fall down a hole?

I like it. It's divisive and not to all tastes, but Hyundai will probably make more sales through something divisive rather than by being blandly inoffensive. It is very colour-sensitive though.

Anyway, my excitement isn't about its looks. It's about having all the good bits of the Ioniq 5N in a lower COG package. Admittedly it isn't going to make as much difference as an ICE SUV Vs saloon because the I5N will carry a lot of weight low down anyway but there will be a difference.

I will get much more excited when we see smaller variants. Performance variants of an Ioniq 3 or 4 would excite me a lot more.

Some look a bit different from the car norm so far for obvious reasons. I like quite a few of them though. Must be one of those subjective things, mayhaps?

Indeed. The worst crime you can commit as a designer, is to design something that creates indifference. I believe a large part of Hyundai's brand strategy will be to create cars that have a bold, challenging aesthetic. That's their point of difference, and that's how they'll get people to notice them.

The Ioniq 5 and 6 intrigue me from a design point of view. Even with familiarity, I can't decide whether I love them, or whether I think they look dated already. I do tend to recall one of Dieter Rams' ten design principles, that "Good design is as little design as possible”, and I think in this respect the Ioniq 6 in particular fails from an aesthetic view point. I just feel like it's over designed, however the beauty of aesthetics is that it's wholly subjective. I can say "I think that is an ugly car", but I can't say "that is an ugly car.

The ionic 6 is certainly bold in a challenging way, much as the first Bangle 5 series was. Maybe it ushers in a new direction for them which will find its mark in time? The E63 6 series is so much better executed by comparison.

The original 5 series still look awkward though and I doubt the Ionic 6 will improve with age.

The issue I have is there is little shared between the Ionic 5 and 6.

KIA under Karim Habib seem to have a more cohesive plan which to me looks much better.

The EV6 is a modern MK2 Ford Scorpio in my eyes, that was controversial at the time…

These performance EVs don’t get the pulse racing but it’s good to see progress.

Aren't the Ioniq5 and 6 the same chassis and drivetrain? Same interior tech and share design features like the pixel lights and theme?

Saw a standard 5 on the road this morning and felt there was a slight touch of Delta Integrale about it.
Now also see a touch of Cosworth in the rear of the Toyota C-HR so perhaps a pinch of salt required smile
