besides crazy money F40

the Porsche, but I can't see it for 550k euro, yes low mileage, but I see a normal 964with turbo tuned engine and seats, I don't see a BTR/RUF special.

In theory, the F40 and the Ruf would be a handy 2-car garage.

But the article’s examples are low-mileage garage queens, which IME means each’ll be an unreliable PITA if suddenly driven regularly – and I’d want to drive ‘em very regularly.

So, Esprit and GT-R (with rear seats re-installed), please.

Any, all of these cars and also those thrown up in the comments. Magnificent. Would add the 288 GTO.

The days when they made proper cars. Who here thinks we'll be doing this in 40 yrs time and lusting over Taycans, e-trons & Polestars??

Wreally does need a Saab as others have already mentioned

For my it would be a flat-front 900 T16S

I had two, fabulous cars my only regret and it’s a small one was buying a two year old H reg one when for not a huge amount more I could have had a K reg delivery mileage Ruby edition, which I’ve lusted after ever since

It was mad, if only we knew….. a mate went to a backstreet garage in Milan selling a stratos for not a lot, next to it for £2k more was a Muira he had just enough to buy the stratos, and drive it back to the U.K.

He still has it and it’s worth many multiples of what he paid for it, but how much is a Muira worth now ?

If only we’d known smile

F40 all day long for me! Disappointed there isn’t an RS Turbo (S1 obvs)! Would love to see some working class heroes in here but alas stuff like Sierra Cosworths are now very much no longer attainable for most never mind working class.

Old school low compression engines using fuel as combustion coolant effectively! Loads of lag and character which has been lost as engines have become more homogeneous as technology and engineering has improved. Shame in some regards. Glad there’s still some oldies but goodies left.

Love all of them, but the one that would make me all misty eyed when seen in the flesh would be the Esprit.

Well kept that man , I remember not going to look at a 5 turbo for just over 6k because it was a little to far away and I thought it wasn’t quite cheap enough !!

Has to be the Lotus Esprit Turbo - for the cultural significance - at the time most people would recognise this but not the others.
It still looks great.

The Rubys and Carlssons were just special cars. I still remember following a still fairly new Ruby for a good few miles in the mid-90s in my old 900i, and wondering what I needed to do to get my hands on a Turbo of some sorts. Never managed it, but one day I will

Actually, I think that was the only Ruby I ever saw on the roads

The Audi seems relatively good value in this day and age. Particularly compared to an Integrale or E30 M3.
