Pointless, obnoxious and disgusting. It's not even good looking.

I know the EV drivetrain translates well to the brand and that EVs may well be the future, but a multi tonne vehicle that is 5.5m long, isn't that quick and pretty much unusable in the real world (a typical parking space being 2.4m x 4.8m) is, for a lack of a stronger word, vulgar. I hate it. And not because it's an EV, it's simply tone deaf and as an EV, badly Engineered virtue signalling.

Badly engineered it is not. Ideally I’d stick a bigger battery in it, but RR have decided 200-odd miles is all it needs.
It’s built for people who want to buy the ultimate in luxury, not be forced to virtuesignal downgrade to a Dacia because the economy’s a bit wobbly. Sounds like it’s selling too, which is more than can be said for some cheaper EVs.

I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself. You can't be that bad.

It seems you do not like luxury brand cars which incidentally have existed since the early 1900s. The original Silver Ghost circa 1906 was 5400mm (std. wheelbase), 5570mm (Ext wheelbase), 1948mm wide and 1550mm high, with a 7litre or 7.4litre engine. That didn't fit in a parking bay either.

Alleging that it is badly engineered when in all likelihood you will have not seen details or drawings is rather ridiculous.

We will see how well it sells but by all accounts it is attractive to Rolls Royce's younger entrepreneurial customers.

I do love how people can state a car is 'pointless' like it's a universal statement of fact.

...
You seem confused. You say it's pointless then say the EV drivetrain translates well to the brand, well yes, that's the point, unless you find the brand itself pointless? Multi tonne, yes, welcome to 2024, a Mercedes C class weighs 2.2 tonnes. Isn't that quick? 0-60 in 4.5 seconds is quicker than 99% of the dross on the roads and probably quicker than 80%+ of PHers cars. Unusable? I mean, sure, maybe if you're a learner driver or plan on using it for the weekly trip to Aldy. Badly engineered? Think you're grasping at made up straws there. And how in gods name you think anyone driving round in a 400k car is "virtue signaling" is the best of all. rofl

I can see how someone could think that the owner of this car could be 'virtue signalling'. Spending £300k+ on a very conspicuous, ostentatious display of wealth and extravagance could be offset by the fact that it's an EV - the perception being that it's non-polluting, 'green'/better for the planet, etc. - 'See - I'm doing my bit'. I can imagine the heads nodding in silent approval, as you pull up outside the venue of the Brits/Oscars/wherever.
Not the way I think - however I can see why some might be a bit cynical.

I'm still laughing about the fact the X6 has turned out to be the blueprint for just about every electrified low(er) drag SUV and also cars like the Ferrari Purosangue that nearly everyone is fawning over.

The same people who were 5 years ago calling the BMW an abomination, pointless, etc.

Phoenix, goes easy on me! smile

The X6 is an abomination. It looks like a dog having a poo.

Interesting observations by Matt Farah. (Warning! Don’t view after eating – knickerbocker glory-inspired cabin colour combo):

Agreed the X6 is a visual catastrophe. I don't see a dog though it's as if the design mood board had a picture of ED-209* and they tried to make the automotive equivalent of it squatting over a lavatory.

  • showing my age-it's an 80's film called Robocop.

On the topic in hand-love the front and the interior.
The rear looks less well resolved-rather curved and bloated rather than the traditionally elegant 3-box design.
As an EV I can see the market but as said previously you lose the appeal of a silent ICE in front of you while cruising while having the ability for it to burst into life both physically and aurally when flooring it.

A bit like an X6 then...
Still, the drag co-efficient is impressive, fake grille done good.

Yeah not quite X6 levels of crassness.

True-they manage to carry off the fake grill rather well. Somewhat ironic that they are a subsidiary of BMW whose fake grills look like a sheet of shiny black plastic.

Really like the x6, always did. Original x5 and x6 now look small and somewhat understated!!

I find a disproportionate number of X6 drivers seem to be quite angry, though to be fair I would be to having that on my driveway to look at.

Watched that earlier, I think it's a pretty balanced review, but I thin I'd take a Ghost with the V12 over the Spectre but I can see the appeal of the Spectre being the latest and greatest for those that are buying these kinds of cars.

It would have been interesting to see the split in sales had they released a V12 version as well as the EV.
