I actually find the price of mundane cars to be more eye watering than say this Yaris.
Yep. £40k for a boggo 320i.
Well quite, this seems quite expensive but relative to almost 40k dross like Civics and Sportages it seems like a bargain. Imagine paying 45k for a Kia Sportage! rofl
I can't believe that you can actually spend over £40k on a Peugeot nowadays as well. I do think some of us(me included) live in the past a bit too much when it comes to new car prices though.
Have to agree. We see what we believe to be inflated prices, and yet it’s across the whole market. Crazy times. As for the GRY, I should love this having come from a history of Evo’s and Impreza’s back in the glory days, but I just don’t. Not a fan of the looks but everything else seems ok, so I can’t fully understand my negativity smile

My hurdle has always been the engine in fairness with them. Although all the owners say that it is a brilliant engine though, so I need to try one at some stage for definite. Plus when I saw one sliding sideways in real life, it really helped to change my perception of them for sure as well.

Hey, what is that car you are driving? Ah, an Yarriss... Cool, man. Who made you those wheel arches? Maybe my mom would like those also on hers. It is a 3cylinder, isnt it? Yeah, same as my moms.
(yes, I'm shallow like that)
I think that anyone who knows about cars knows how special they are. No-one’s comparing them to the base model.

I think it could just be one of those cars that once behind the wheel, any previous negative preconceptions might simply disappear! Sounds like you might just find yourself behind the wheel of one in the not too distant future, cheque book at the ready smile

I don't think the price actually matters. It could be 70 grand and the people who really want one of these, will pay it.
I say good on you Toyota, for making them.
Personally I think they are fugly as hell, shatty interior, not practical at all, and overpriced at 40 grand.
But we all like different things......

My missus tells me that I'm boring a lot in fairness too! hehe

I'm not great at changing my record for sure, and I'm terrible at going on about the same thing I reckon! biggrin

My missus also says that I spend too much time on PenisHeads as she calls it, but I do love the place though. smile

22% increase in price for a 7% increase in power.
Better than the TypeR isn’t it? Didn’t that get no increase in power yet a similar price increase?
The Fk8 to FL5 went from 316 to 326 bhp, and 295 to 310 Lb/ft, but its heavier so near enough identical performance - but went from 36K to 49K which raised a few eyebrows (ok more than a few) but vs everything else above and below it is about right sadly. You can now get a brand new one, in the colour you want, with a £1k discount. Who knows if the yaris will follow it in time

Jesus wept I dropped a similar amount on an approved Flying Spur with 3 yrs manufacturer warranty. At least I can see where the money went sitting in it.

It may have go-kart handling and a fizzy engine but there must be a price limit before you start thinking maybe I should get a 991.

It's a pity they didn't stick the WRC1 drivetrain in the special editions.

Quite a few owners, maybe a disproportionate number, have other cars worth at least as much or a lot more than any 991. They regard it as a performance bargain.

Of course, if money's tight or it's an only car, then it's a fair chunk of cash, but what isn't nowadays. I'd baulk at a £40K cooking BMW or an optionless £52K 4cyl Cayman way before a £44K GRY. That's before we get to over £60K for a Kia for God's sake.

They'll sell every one.

It's a fair point it only makes sense if you have 3/4 other cars though to be honest it is not a bargain by anyone's definition.

I did a quick survey on the GRY group I am in on FB. Only 23% had a GRY as their only car. It is one of my 3 and I have bikes as well. GRY owners generally are not struggling for a couple of bob to rub together and also they either are inverted snobs (like that it is called a Yaris even though it is 99% a bespoke high performance coupe) or are not concerned about the brand. Given the relatively limited planned supply of Gen 2's of high 100's/very low 1000's) a year (educated guess, not a fact) and that there is an auto available (which has generated a suprising (to me) high level of interest) now where Gen 1 didn't have one. I think it is sure they will sell all they want to. (There are several Mk1 GRY owners who are seriously considering buying a Mk2 auto to go with their Mk1 as well as their other cars). Toyota knows what it is doing
