Seinfeld's 993 can't be a 4S Cabriolet because none were made!

I believe there were no factory widebody Cabs with the exception of 14 turbos made in 1994 before the standard 993 Turbo was launched.

The last 993C4 rolled off the production line in 1997 whereas the final C4S was made in 1998. This was Seinfeld's car.

Maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong?

I’m not surprised. Probably very little market for an Australian car.

Impressive downforce….or should that be upforce…?
hehe The second I saw that photo I was waiting for the comments, you guys did not disappoint!
the picture fits in the pressent time of the upside down world we live in, good = bad and bad = good, 'their' right = wrong and 'their' wrong = right.

but, nice car/history, the money = crazy, but hey, its what it is, I do not like the blue interior though, also not that in all black, or worse light grey...iii
all boring (to me)

maybe they can ask Singer or Gunther Werks and sorts for a nicer interior, ok some are a bit outspoken :-)

Lovely car, probably my all time favourite shape 911 however, two things spring to mind. . 1. The price yikes 2. The steering wheel seems to be on the wrong side! driving

Glad I wasn't the only one biggrin

I love the way 993's look...was in the market for a C4S some time ago, but prices had already started to rise (can't recall exactly when it was, but a 70k mile car was £40k) and the expose trim bolts were a big put off (superficial perhaps, but them's the breaks).

I liked the 993 when it came out and had a test drive but it felt slow compared to the TVR Griffith 4.3 big valve I had. Porsche generously let me borrow a turbo when it came out and whilst it was super impressive on an open dual carriageway overtaking traffic on normal roads was a pain because of L-A-G which made it useless for my daily drives, so I kept the TVR. It was a real disappointment.

Irrational how much people pay for one nowadays IMO, and this is a raving bonkers price.
I know exactly where you’re coming from….
Every now & then I would test drive the latest 911 (993/996/997) was always underwhelmed which always reinforced keeping the Griff until now. However, drove & bought a 991.2 GTS & it’s an amazing machine.

I was going to buy a 993 Turbo about 15 years ago (not for £1.3 m I should add!) I found one at the Porsche dealer in Bern and took it for an extended test drive. It was nice enough and good on the motorway but on the back roads I didn’t think it was as much fun to drive as the base 993 C2 (which was slower but could be chucked around more). So bought a C2 instead.

I think I paid around £35k for one
I bought a mint 993 turbo from a specialist dealer 20 years ago for £31k. Not much fun to drive and ugly. Chopped it in for a C2. Prettier, but not much fun to drive either. Totally over-rated. This one? Don’t be silly.

Did it really take six months to paint the wheels and glue on a bit more leather?

Because for people with more money than sense, value can get ascribed to the stupidest things. That's not to say the seller and buyer of this car, or Mr Seinfeld are stupid, but they have too much money, clearly. Because there is no real value to something being the last of, after it has gone, and is now used, and available on the second hand market.
I know a very wealthy automotive enthusiast who would take an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV ‘Racing’ Edition over a Ferrari F12 because the Alpha has a silly pain scheme, is one of ten, and with the little commemorative plaque on the dashboard showing a racing track name for a win or start or something, is effectively (in their eyes) 1 of 1 in the world.
When you have so much, nearly everything you could want, you start to want something purely for the reason that no one else can have it. That's why extreme rarity of non essential items leads to extreme value. You could say it's extremely stupid (I think so) but it is also just a part of human nature.

I suppose the good news is for the rest of us, you can get a 993 turbo for a lot less than 1.3m if we want one.

Don’t forget the special plaque on the dash.

FWIW, the steering wheel is on the correct side. The pedals on a RHD air-cooled 911 are instruments of torture.

Almost an identical story here. Back in 1998, I test drove a 993 Turbo that Maranello, Egham had on the forecourt (can't remember exact price, but between £30k - £35k). Whilst there, a rather nice TVR Chimaera 5.0 in Viper Blue with full Flint Grey leather interior caught my eye with a screen price of £32k. Took that out for a drive too and felt exactly the same as you. It was to be my every day car and the TVR was so much more fun and usable than the the Porsche. I put the deposit down there and then on the TVR. For the 3 years I owned it, never regretted the decision. The TVR also never let me down mechanically, not once.

I do wince now at the values of Chimaeras compared to 993 Turbos, but I know I would have sold the 993 at the same time I sold the TVR, if not sooner, so would have missed out on today's values anyway.
