Just seen this and have to say 100% agree with you. I literally thought I was seeing things.

I do like the design, some mentioned the high weight, did not knew it was that high...

say a GT-R is just 1535kg or so.

also it does not look that long, but I guess its longer then it looks? guess a bit more then 4,5 mtr?

The rear is fantastic, but the rest is meh. The inside looks like a bottle of matey bubble bath!

SLS, a 20k bork fund, and 50k change for me.
Agreed except you’re not getting an sls coupe for 130 now I don’t think.

cheapest in the Netherlands a few months ago was 165k euro I believe for the coupe SLS that was 'cheap' but was a long time for sale.

but maybe a better comparison to this new AMG GT 63s could be a AMG GT or GT-S those you can buy cheaper and are great cars also way way lighter with around 1545kg I thought.

Good point, the gap to coupes is getting wider. I'd take the convertible tbh. It's never gonna be a true daily, so why not live with the roof down. If I need gull wings I could still afford a model X!

if you take a roadster, then maybe take the 'better' AMG GTC with RWS? then a SLS roadster? and mostly a bit cheaper as well?

Absolutely - roadster sls is 100% a hidden gem and absolutely totally misunderstood. People think it’s just an sl with some styling. They have no idea about the low weight, ridiculously mid engine and pancake flat cornering.

When do we collect it? hehe

An interesting thought. I only drove an SLS once for a couple of hours (I know a few on here own one) a decade ago, and it felt special. I've driven multiple AMG GTs and they aren't quite as dramatic, and certainly not as iconic.

Maybe the answer is actually an AMG GT-R. It certainly would be a tough choice. But I think we agree, this thing certainly wouldn't get a look in!

Never been a massive Mercedes fan, but the exterior styling on this is (in my opinion) actually quite nice.
It has a sleek, purposeful shape, without too many fakery bits & bobs, everything seems to work with each other, nice lines which run from front to back, yea I like it.
Moving to the interior, dull, dull, dull, and then christ what the hell are those almost neon bits, they just look out of place against the 'black everything else'.
Of course, I doubt I will ever be able to afford a 200 grand vehicle, but as a 55 year old male, I just couldn't live with that. The BMW grill issue, is quite a big one, especially to me as a BMW fan and serial owner, but you don't see it from the inside. This Mercedes interior is something you will have to stare at, every second you drive the car, and I could not live with it.
I'm sure others will love it.
For 200 grand it would have to be a 911 GT3, if I could actually buy one, as I know how hard it is to get a slot.

I have a coupe one, so yep, definitely agree they are fab. And agree this modern one falls short.

AMG-GT-R - mmm yep, there is a thought. How does that compare to the SLS as I’ve never had a go in the later car

The location of the rear charging flap is unforgivable and smacks of lazy detailing/cost cutting. The interior is a mess too. The only impact it will have is to push up the values of the models that came before.

Agreed. Details matter. Especially at this level.

The new GT seems like an awkward prospect.

The old one was edgy, and just about light/dynamic enough to be an aspirant 911 competitor; a sports car as AMG would have a sports car. This generation isn't, but at the same time it's nowhere near a GT car as a Mercedes GT ought to be ie. a technologically superior but visually minimalist Conti rival.

That said, the SL successfully occupied a similar odd niche (not a sports car, not a full-fat GT) for a very long time.

If it's like other expensive hybrids the deprecation will be brutal.

The AMG GT roadster is a lovely looking car. I was taken out in one (GTC) and it had the worst ride I've experienced. Brutally hard and uncompliant.

Never know with AMG these days whether or not they're trying to package off a 2 litre 4 pot for laughable amounts of money.

Seems this one atleast still packs a V8.

They haven't released the weight yet, I doubt the 6kw battery and motor has added 600kg to the 63's 1970kg weight probably around 200kg, so it's heavy, very heavy but close to 2600kg I doubt it.

Mercedes seem to be masters at making their interiors look cheap and chintzy though and this one follows that trend.
