Totally agree.
I mean, where's the imagination?
As it's electric, you would think something like; 'Warp', 'Pulse', 'Flux', EMF (short for Electro Motive Force) or Mega Watt.
Putting Turbo on it is ridiculous
So was it ridiculous of Porsche not to label all their 992s turbo when the base models had turbocharged engines? I mean, where's the imagination?

I think Porsche know their market and as their margin is still very healthy (18%) with the Taycan considerable outselling the Panamera I don't expect them to change in the short term.

Are you suggesting there's nothing wrong in the taxpayer subsidising Chinese EVs? I'm amazed you can't see the irony.
Can you be specific as to how the UK taxpayer is subsidising Chinese EV production?.
On that basis, I don't think they should be treated evenly.

A Volkswagen Beetle is not an insect.
A Ford Puma isnt a big fast moggy.
Audi have never entered the TT.
You cant drink from a Renault Clio Cup.
Is a Skoda Superb ?
Turbo just means the fast one, even the normal ICE Porsches have Turbos, but it isnt mentioned, my old PC had a Turbo Button, we had a Turbo badge on a Vacuum we had once, You can get Turbo Shandy, I had a bike saddle that said Turbo on it.
Its just marketing, need to get used to it, its all largely bks to flog us stuff, which is fine so no need to get all Rain Man over it.
And if someone you meet at a social gathering says they have an Electric Macan Turbo and you correct them, well you are getting invited again and they will talk about you in the Jeremy Clarkson Adenoidal voice.

Not specifically, no, but all EVs are treated the same in the UK. While the UK and several other nations have reduced our fossil fuels, we subsidise China who accounted for 95% of the world’s new coal power construction activity in 2023 and the level of new construction starting in China is nearly quadruple what it was in 2019.
China are playing catch up. They have 1.4Bn population to provide for. America's per person emissions still dwarfs China and they, China, have bettered every target they set to reach carbon neutrality by 2060. In my book that is very impressive. Their research and development of energy storage systems is at such a pace that their renewable power will give them a massive advantage come 2060. So we can either be creative and sell our renewable technology globally or be left as some little irrelevant backwater within the next century. That's assuming the world has not gone bang in between.

I know it's just marketing (I work in marketing), they will still sell. But personally I'd be embarrassed to have Turbo written on a car with no ICE.

Is that according to the Chinese? Of course, they are known for their honesty...remember Covid? Edited by Nomme de Plum on Tuesday 23 April 16:10

I'd prefer a French approach. Ain't going to happen though...can't upset the new punters after brexit.

You keep the faith. Maybe review in 2030 when one in four cars will be BEV.
you'll be telling me CO2 is actually a problem next... There is a proper Climate Science thread if you feel like getting technical and you have the technical knowhow to back up any assertion.
So what do you think about NOx in our cities?
In the meantime I just like driving my EVs and from an engineering perspective watching them develop at a pace.

It will be interesting to see how are crops are hit this year due to the flooding and rainfall we have seen. If we get a hot dry summer it will compound the problem which won't help food prices.

I don't need to tell you anything. After the RAF my dad became a part time meteorologist and as a keen sailor weather is pretty important in my world. I do know we are spending many millions mitigating the impacts of changing weather patterns all from our taxes. It will be hitting your insurance premiums too.

After watching this, I have no idea what to think, nor do i believe anyone else knows what they are talking about either! But one thing is for sure, money makes the world go round... Anyway, you're right, this should probably be carried on in a different thread...

I’m maybe going mostly by the Autocar review but it’s a bit meh which surprises me. Bland to look at and bland to drive… a winning formula perhaps. I think I would struggle to pay a premium for it tbh.
