It's so odd seeing a G Wagon with tiny wheels given that all you tend to see now are the AMG ones.

Not sure who this will appeal to really but I guess the option is nice.

Another ICE-derived EV where the grille is replaced by an ungainly lump of plastic. Looks awful. Apart from that, quite nice if you like that sort of thing.

Interested to see how efficient this isnt, seems they have fallen into the trap of lets just fit a bigger battery for range which we know doesnt work.

They’ll sell shiploads to virtue-signalling LA and NYC types, limo companies serving trendy events such as Paris fashion week, premieres, etc, and urban-based female owners who’re fed up with being gobbed at / heckled by hordes of resentful and chippy ‘uglies’ biggrin

What is? The car? Or your comment?

I suspect the latter.

A motor for each wheel should give this some extra off road capability and manoeuvrability in tight spaces.
Or for showing off in a shopping centre car park........
Say goodbye to your wheel bearings.

And tyres.

And the surface of the carpark.

Multiple references to this being called the G850 yet the vehicle is clearly badged the G580….
The writer clearly hadn't had their morning coffee. Obviously called the 580 relating to its power.

The range seems a little mean, i was hoping for a car of this size to have a range to be 350-400 with a real world range of at least 300 miles. 294 in the real world would probably translate to 200-220 miles.

my 2013 G63 can't do that distance without a petrol stop

Edit: or at least not in normal mixed driving (it probably can if I sit at say 100 kph or thereabouts)
Thank you

That's got 1.5 miles per kWh written all over it so 160-170 mile range.

Some cars just shouldn't be electrified. Makes less sense than a FFRR EV.
1.5 miles per kwh is 60mpge (UK) and at least my thinking with a 3 tonne SUV/4x4 is that I could live with that given its 580hp and does off the light traffic light acceleration in the high end sports car territory

A Full charge at night from home (7.4kw) plugging in 7-8pm at night would have it full in the morning to go work and cost sub £20 quid

I'm not an EV advocate - I like smelly race 2 strokes and a oil burner 4x4 to tow them but I do see sense in these. I dont however at £150-190k price

If it gets 220 miles to a battery then it's around the same efficiency as my MG4, which either means Mercedes have done an unbelievably good job of SAIC have done an abysmal job.

I agree. I'm more pointing out that if people think they're going to get 300 miles to a charge they're deluded.

Could just be down to cell quality. Cheap EVs chuck in all the basic cells and rely on the BMS to sort it out. Maybe some of the £150k has gone on selecting better quality, more uniform cells?

Aero above 50 is going to cane the mileage but for urban use and sub 100 mile drives to a destination with charging means it'll tick enough boxes and will probably be fine for the bulk of users.

Infinitely preferable to an FFRR to me, although I will admit that whilst I think the Sport model is a mess to my eyes, the FF versions are growing on me, but they do seem colour and wheel dependent. I saw one the other day in a kind of dark champagne metallic and it looked really classy, saw a black one this morning and it seemed to have lost all its gravitas.

This must be the new king of choices for business owners and high earners looking to salary sacrifice and take advantage of the tax savings on electric vehicles.

You would have to be insane to buy this lump.

Out dated styling, battery range, heavy and value in 8 years time spring to mind.

>it tips the EC scales at 3,085kg.

I really think they need to bring back a pure "road tax" supplement to Vehicle Excise Duty based on vehicle weight.

In the last couple of decades we've had increasing amounts of SUVs, then EVs, and now SUV EVs.

It's no surprise we've had a correspondingly increasing pothole repair bill.

The RR kind of suits having all the vents and grilles filled in as it was designed to be somewhat minimalist from its inception. The G-Wagon looks like the version Toy-R-Us used to sell.
