You would have to be insane to buy this lump.
Out dated styling, battery range, heavy and value in 8 years time spring to mind.
Outdated styling? Seriously? Maybe we should tear down Big Ben an make a glass/steel tower? You know, because te current is outdated...Out dated styling, battery range, heavy and value in 8 years time spring to mind.
Battery range is enough for most people. Heavy? So, no track days, uh, nooo. Value? If you can afford it....

Is there anything with a worse shape to be an EV?
Bus or Lorry maybe? Somehow this looks more like a restomod than the regular G on the outside at least. Inside is a horror show of course.
Its a st car made even more st by making it an EV, so if Mercedes want to waste money and effort making it, more power to them
The poor range is a big problem for a vehicle like this, say your going skiing 800 miles each way, autoroute speeds so 85mph the range is going to be 180 miles tops at 0 degrees, so 4/5 stops for at least an hour a time turns a 10/12 hour days driving to a 18 plus hour non starter.
I know it’s an outlier case but even if it could scrape 300 miles on a charge in the above scenario it would be (just) viable.
Irrelevance to most buyers but still it doesn’t feel like progress.

If it gets 220 miles to a battery then it's around the same efficiency as my MG4, which either means Mercedes have done an unbelievably good job of SAIC have done an abysmal job.
Could just be down to cell quality. Cheap EVs chuck in all the basic cells and rely on the BMS to sort it out. Maybe some of the £150k has gone on selecting better quality, more uniform cells?Aero above 50 is going to cane the mileage but for urban use and sub 100 mile drives to a destination with charging means it'll tick enough boxes and will probably be fine for the bulk of users.
The physics around moving that thing around, particularly at speed just can't be overcome.
That said for 99% of the buyers who do nothing more than the urban school run drag won't be too much of an issue.

I know I'm banging on about it but there's 0 chance you'll get anywhere near 180 miles at 85 mph cruise.I know it’s an outlier case but even if it could scrape 300 miles on a charge in the above scenario it would be (just) viable.

Literally zero.

I really think they need to bring back a pure "road tax" supplement to Vehicle Excise Duty based on vehicle weight.
In the last couple of decades we've had increasing amounts of SUVs, then EVs, and now SUV EVs.
It's no surprise we've had a correspondingly increasing pothole repair bill.
