You're right the Coupe plus plenty of others was the Tipo. What a versatile chassis that was.
My second biggest car regret is not owning a Fiat Coupe. I adored them from seeing the original press release pictures. However I could only really afford one in the early 00’s and I simply couldn’t get my baby son’s pram in the boot.
I remember looking at a 2000 Model (in 2002) 20v Turbo in Broom Yellow with Black Wheels. In hindsight I should just of changed his pram for one that fitted. A sensible Metallic Fern Green E46 318i was ultimately purchased and a year later for my 30th birthday a 330i Sport.

Had one (a standard 20vt in Sprint Blue) and loved it - it was my first fast car and it felt rapid back in 2002, for sure. Over 100mph in "magic" third gear and sounded great doing it. Broadly reliable too (Bosch electrics IIRC) but watch out for the Coolant Hose of Death at the back of the engine - it's what killed mine in the hands of its new owner. Parts and specialists may be scarce these days but lots of knowledge out there.
Lovely design touches in addition to the obvious body styling - curved headlight covers, metal fuel filler cap etc. Surprisingly practical as well - useable rear seats and large boot - very different from the Alfa GTV.
As said above a great community and one of the best forums at fccuk, full of genuine car (not just Italian car) enthusiasts. Plenty of ex-owners on here and it makes me happy to see the old usernames frequently pop up

I’d agree that the handling was a bit ‘soft’ as standard, but they could be made MUCH better with some choice mods. Decent tyres, eibach springs, decent dampers, updated rear ARB, strut brace and (most importantly) correct geometry and they would easily stay with a RWD of equivalent power and age.
Quite tuneable too - 300bhp was trivially easy and even 400bhp wouldn’t break the bank. Above this started to get pricy, but 500-ish bhp has been achieved on lots of cars and north of 600bhp for a handful.

I drove a 300ps Focus FWD ages ago and in corners it was soooow shakey.

I had one of these in Scotts Green about 12 years ago. It was a real pain to work on, especially as I had to change the clutch and timing belt within weeks of buying it.
However, it felt extremely quick after an ECU chip swap.
Then one day the wastegate actuator rod circlip broke and the wastegate jammed shut, I still remember what the pull felt like in 2nd and 3rd gear and I still don't think I've ever driven anything as fast since then 😁
